Blower fan resistors

Postby GeoffSmith » Mon 24.10.2011, 21:36

If your fan doesn't work at any of the lower positions (1, 2 or 3) then you probably have a burned out resistor in the fan resistor pack. The packs are obsolete from Lotus and I have not been able to find a drop in replacement. It is possible to replace them with discrete high power resistors (~£15) but I am trying to get sets of replacement resistors made up. They will not be made of constantan resistance wire this time which means they can be soldered and won't corrode and break as quickly. Target price is £10 for all three resistors and there is scope for getting the price down quite a bit more if we get a reasonable number in the group buy. Nothing 100% definite yet but sign up to give me an idea of numbers:

Update: It looks like this is practicable, so I'm going to get a burned out resistor pack sent off to a company to make up some prototypes.

Won't help your tyres but it doesn't half get petrol out of oil.

They alter the voltage going to the heater blower motor to make the heater blower motor work at the 4 different speeds.
