Referring to the above, if not the Engine Number then what? Is this aluminium flange a part of the gearbox?

Why do I ask? Well I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row re possible shipment and reregistration, I have found and cleaned this number on my engine, assumed it was the Engine No, and was thoroughly panicked to discover that it doesn't tally with the V5C. Fortunately, so far, this thread has pacified me.

I'm now trying to find, clean and confirm the engine number but it is completely obscured by the pipe work, I know, from bitter experience, that the Cypriot Authorities will assume this is the Engine Number and reject the car unless I can tell them what this number represents.

Edit: managed to see 4 of the Engine No digits through the plumbing which, mercifully, tally with the docs. Be still interested to know what this other number is though.

Once again, thanks to LEC for answers which otherwise would leave us scratching our heads!!

Needed to locate the engine number - which as Mike_H mentioned is left and down of the most obvious stamp visible under the bonnet (what is that?? mine is a simple 9-0000)

The key difference is that the engine number is indented, where the obvious flange thingy number is raised. I also needed about 3,648 wipes to clear the dirt off to find the actual engine number....

Most puzzling thing is that the engine number on the car bears absolutely no correlation at all to that printed on the V5C

OK - update - the engine number on the V5C was actually correct, I was looking at the gearbox number - the two are virtually side-by-side except you can actually see the gearbox number, where the engine number is extremely difficult (I actually had to use an endoscope to read the full thing).

Is it possible, when looking at an ISUZU engine that has never been fitted to a vehicle (NEW!), to determine whether it is an NA or a Turbo version?
Thanks to you, I have found the engine serial number, but is there a type indication engraved on the engine?
Normal: ZN1 = 4XE1-M
Turbo: ZT1 = 4XE1-T
