It's been stated elsewhere 215/45-16 fits without issue. I can confirm it and have posted before and after photos on Smaug's thread for comparson.

How much more at ground contact?
My Toyo R1R don't come in 215 but would change for more bite.

A smart dog would have photographed the cross section, too. I'll see if I can find an old photo for comparison and post when I have something useful.

tiger, just measure the width of the patch. That should give me some kind of a reference.

It is about 75-80mm x 10mm in additional contact patch; pending your tire pressure. This is my experience with the wider treads.
