Just thought I'd share this and see what others think (Not that it would have any impact on my decision).

This past weekend I became the last one in my family who doesn't have at least one tattoo. First my son, who got "Compassion" and "Love" tattooed (sp) on the inside of his wrists, then an anchor (he's into them) with "Grace can still be found within the gale" (from a Thrice song) on his forearm, then my wife got a small Quill and Rose on the back of her neck while in Las Vegas and when in Ireland got the "Movers and shakers" poem around her ankles. Now even my daughter has one. She got "Let it be" on the inside of one of her wrists. It seems to have some special meaning to her.

Well, I've thought about one for a while, but only now am I thinking seriously about it (not to be left out, you know). As it turns out, the first initials of our names are A, C, R, and C (Allie, Chris, Ryan, Christibeth). Anybody guess where this is headed?

I'm thinking, remove the word LOTUS from the badge and alter the B into an R and voila! My family and my favorite hobby, all in one! I expect to be headed overseas for a while, and it's a way to have them with me. I'll do it on a shoulder, probably on the upper back part.

Not being a tattoo lover, to the extent that I once had a Major explain to my 3 kids (all at the time desirous of painting themselves) why he was covered in severe & unsightly scar tissue (because when he was Commissioned he felt they were not commensurate with his new role preferring the terrible scars to the tattoos!) in order to 'help' their decisions, I can't say that this is a great idea! Hey I'm just old fashioned & as you point out everyone seems to have them nowadays!


But if you're going for it then why not a frontal picture of your elan on your chest, you could use your nipples as headlights & you could still keep the badge dead centre!

Not a fan of tats. I've not yet seen anyone with one and thought either - "that makes them look better" or "I wish I had a thing like that". On the other hand, I dont drink (to excess) either because I've never yet seen a drunk person and thought "I wish I was like that" - yet most people do. Its all part of me being a boring old fart! ...but each to their own.

Some look good, some don't - personally i wouldn't want a tat, but Mrs P has a discrete one and step-son has a few - none of which i find offensive or 'over the top'.

There is a world of difference between having a meaninful word, phrase or image for permanent reminder, and being what is oft referred to as a 'TFW' (Tattooed F*** Wit).

Have what YOU want, but remember (excepting expensive/painful procedures), it will be with you for life.

got to be the funniest line ive seen this week there again i do have 5 tattoo's 2 quite large

Also they can last if looked after, my first is nearly 30 years old and stiil easily distinguishable. It is a simple design however. My last 2 were done about 2 years ago and are much more complex and large 20+ hours work in each but given the improvements in ink quality of artwork and understanding of what does and doesn't work im happy to belive that these will still look good in another 30 years.

My only advise is to make sure you really want it and then make sure that you find a tattooist that is good. I had to wait nearly 9 months from taking in my ideas and agreeing the designs to actually getting them started. Any shop that you can walk in and get something done immediately should ring alarm bells.

Chris, Go for it... that design would not be my preference, but if it's what you like then that's fine as it's only you that needs to like it. Just think about the positioning... I went for my forearm (and will next time go for the other forearm) because then I can see it, but also shirt-sleeves can cover it if required (as you may have noticed, tattoos and the tattoo'd have plenty of nay-sayers so for interviews etc I can take it out of the equation).

I have seen a number of people with tattoo'd faces, ranging from the tear-drop, to a celtic pattern down the cheek, to full head (face, scalp, the lot)... none of which are to my taste, but each to his own.

To the nay-sayers, why should you give a damn if I'm covered in tattoos... I'm not asking you to get any!

I'm not a fan of tattoos just for their own sake, nor am I a fan of big obnoxious ones. I do like them when they're small, tasteful and meaningful, and I think it's generally a good idea to have them where they can be completely hidden when you're dressed, specially when you're dressed up.

I didn't come upon the idea of the Lotus badge because I want a branded logo permanently drawn on my skin. I just wanted to get something that referred to my children, and I was having trouble thinking of a design. Then last weekend I was washing my car and it just hit me when I was looking at the nose badge. At first, I was thinking only my kids' initials (CR and CB). I tried that, making the A in the badge into an R. It meant the R would be backwards. I did the artwork, and it didn't really look too bad, but while I was doing that it occured to me that with my wife's initial being an A and mine being a C, our four initials would be an even easier design. I showed both designs to her and she like the one with all of our initials better.

I've seen Porsche tattoos (on a guys ankle) but never one for Lotus.

Also as previously said I'm not a fan of them and am probably the only member of my family that doesn't have one.

As a child I always remember my old uncle that had them all down his arms and they had turned into horrible green blurs
that could not be recognised as pics...

I think as pointed out. If they can be covered up (especially for interviews, etc) then they are a personal picture that should not have
any impact on future employment.

After our wedding and my wife saw all of my familys tatoos she is also considering getting one. I wouldn't say I would encourage her but as long as it could be covered I wouldn't try to discourage her.

After all it's your body. you do whatever you like to it.

Personally I do not like needles... I cringe at the thought of going to hospital and having an injection..... there is no way I'm going to pay to have thousands of them....

Whatever you decide.... The decision should be up to you. Your the one that has to live with it.
