H and H Auction at Buxton

I have just returned home from the classic car auction at Buxton .A friend of mine went with me in my Elan. If you were a seller it was a disappointing auction, a large percentage of the cars auctioned did not meet the lower estimate in the catalogue .The estimate for the red elan was £5.000 to £6.000 and it only reached £3.000 so it wasn't sold, the auctioneer said about most of the cars that they would pass any offers on to the seller so there is a possibility that the Elan did sell for something above the £3.000 when the auction ended
It was in relatively good condition and was red as I said earlier ,It had the grey leather seats in with the red stripe on and it was a 1991 SE turbo and had covered 91.000 miles
I will have a look on the H and H web site tomorrow to see if it sold at all
Its obviously a reflection of the national financial climate I suppose ?

Strange that - it must just be cars that are particularly affected. ?? I have been to several antiques auctions recently and most stuff has been flying off the shelves, particularly original oils and watercolours, jewellery, Oriental rugs and ivory, silver and period furniture. I guess the difference is that most of this stuff will tend to appreciate rather than depreciate in the case of most cars.

Erm was upside down in the grass at the top of buxton.......erm.......having come off the back of one of their transport trailers.......think the driver might be looking for a new career.......oops :$

5k sounds a lot for a 91SE with 91k on the clock unless it is very tidy with a very good history. Auction cars rarely have the latter & usually go for below market value too.

Unfortunately people are a bit unrealistic about their 21 year old, 100k pride and joy. £5000 - £6000 does sound rather a lot but maybe the auctioneer valued it at that. After all, they get a hefty commission on the hammer price

I have just had a look at the auction results and the seller accepted £3,300 for the Elan in the end ,not a lot of money is it?
