Which part is too long?
If it is the part that fits into the bearing then as long as it is inside the inner half of the bearing it will be fine and as the bearings are the same for Vauxhall and Elan I do not think it will be a problem.
Specky's dimensions shows 34mm for the part that fits into the bearing which is 37mm deep so 1or 2mm longer on the shaft will not be a problem.
Specky shows the overall length as 80mm which is what I had and the information on the Febi part shows the overall length as 81mm, did have a bearing here

Just to clarify, if I am not mistaken these are M12 x 1.5 as there is a selection of pitches for metric fine, 1.0 is more common and then there are 1.25 and 1.5 the standard course pitch being 1.75. On top of that there is half height and full nuts, the top use the thinner one and the lower a full nut, the track rods ends originally had dome head nuts.
Not too hard to come by if you know what you are after, but if you just ask for metric fine you are more likley to get M12 x 1.0
