Raft Bushing Part numbers

Postby racerstev » Thu 22.12.2011, 01:40

I seem to have a conflict on part numbers for the raft bushings.

The parts manual lists C100C6006F as the "Bush, Flanged, Raft, Foward" and I need 4 of them

it lists the same number for series 1 "Bush, Flanged,Raft, Rear" needing 2 for that.

When you read how to service the bushings it seems to list 2 differant types of bush's.

SJ lists the rear bush's as "D100C6001F" needing 2 for the job.

The upper is listed as D100C6018F, these seem to be in good shape, do you guys change them?
The others are really worn, and the car seems rather unstable under power.

Thanks for the help! Steve

Steve, I think the version of the parts manual you're looking at is probably incorrect (misprint?) and SJS probably correct.

I have an earlier version (S1 only) of the manual and the part listed as C100C6006F (2No required) in your version is listed as D100C6001F (2No required) in the earlier version.

Hope this helps.

Edit March 17, 2013 to bring prices up to date and note the Fed bush change.
Steve:

Using Parts Guide V6, Plate 3101A, these are the part numbers for the bushings for the RAFT:

4 A100C0030H Top Hat Bush Upper (41) £34.07 Now £35.09
4 C100C6003F Bush Wishbone (36) £10.86 Now £11.19
6 C100C6006F Bush Raft (50/51) £6.45 Now £6.64
4 D100C6018F Bush Raft Upper (42) £6.47 Now £6.66

E100C6001F is used on the S2 version The "E" version replaces versions "B", "C" and "D" Price is now £33.23

It appears the Fed CAr uses the S2 Spec bushing.

Left column is quantity for the car, the number in () after the name is the illustration number and the price is per piece (from the Lotus Price book October, 2011)

Re: Raft Bushing Part numbers

I can't remember what ones i bought when i did mine (it was over 5 years ago), but i have found a document on the laptop which lists my shopping list at the time as:-

C100C6003F (4) – WISHBONE BUSHES 9.37 @ PM - 10.04 @ SJ
A100C0030H (4) TOP HAT RAFT
C100C6006F (4) FLANGED RAFT 5.96@SJ
D100C6001F (2) (OR 2 MORE OF ABOVE) 11.29@SJ

From that, I presume that i bought whichever ones were on the original aftersales list as they were only a few pence each at the time, and then got the rest elsewhere! (I also seem to remember that the 6006F and 6001F were sort of interchangable in one aplication, but both sides of the car should be the same! - it is only a slight design difference, not a major alteration)

Probably not much help, but all I can add to this one.

The one thing i do remember was thinking that it didn't need the bushes until i spoke to Neil at the aftersales and found out that the design changed because the earlier ones could wear and fail gradually without you noticing - not a dangerous and catastrophic failure, but a degeneration of ride and handling - i did notice a huge improvement after fitting new bushes (although i did all the suspension ones, plus set ride height and corner weights) so can't say how much was down to each component.
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

The ones that are really bad on mine are 50/51, the rubber is all broken down allowing the
raft to move around.

I have 6 new-C100C6006F bushings so it looks like I have what I need to do the job.
Thanks for the help all!!

The rear bush on mine are differant then the front, they have a larger diameter. Does this mean I have
S2 raftsand I need the E100C6001F?

There's no color mark that I can see on them, they are pretty beatup though...

The rubber seems to be far softer on the rear bush's then the fronts. I wonder if
a solid bush would be more effective.

The S2 used a lot of the later mods of the Fed car. Maybe Lotus just forgot when they started using the bigger bush and listed the change as happening with the S2.

There is only one raft for the pre-S2 listed, so either Lotus is mistaken when they uprated things or you have a car with S2 rafts.

DBE lists the E100C6001F at $30.00 each. Lotus Dealer price is around 15 Quid.

Sounds like that must be the case John, I'll put together a order for DBE this weekend. It's gonna
be a big one this time!

Just a note, under light power the car pulls left, coast and the car goes straight. Seems the
rafts are moving around a good bit.

There are a LOT of bushings in the front suspension that can cause torque steer.

Seems to me that the TCA bushes are also suspect.

Looking at the Lotus Price book, I found D100C6001F listed as a "Flanged Bush-Raft Mount B2".

They are 14 quid each and quite possibly what DBE stocks. They don't use the first letter in their parts guide.

Are you replacing all of the bushings?

Found this on the Internet: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gtcmaint/d ... _HOWTO.pdf

May be some help?

I have Steve M's suspension on the shelf if you want me to measure anything for comparison.

To complicate the issue, I just looked up the parts in the V2 Parts Guide and that guide shows the part number for the rear Raft bush as D100C6001F which is consistant with the SJ listing.

The change to the E100C6001F suggests a change in material or vendor.

So, the V6 Parts Guide is WRONG in the Raft Bushing area.

Good link, makes installing them look easy! But in my case I want to replace all of the bushings
on the raft so they will be coming out. One of last winters projects was the front suspention, all is
either new or inspected up front.

The rear bushings in the link look the same as the bushing on my car.

Ordered up 2 rear bushings today, $29.99 each from Dave Bean.

I also looked a bit closer at the failure. Seems just the rear bush's have
failed, the fronts are still in pretty good shape. It's very easy to test the
condition of the rear bush, just get a lever or screw driver in between the
raft and the crossmember and give a little pull. If it's bad you will see alot
of movement, on my car at least 1/2" on the drivers side and 1/4" on the passenger side.

No wonder the car is unstable under power... Besides the suspention moving around and
changing toe the steering rack is mounted to the frame so the movment of the raft steers the
car!

On that note, this car was designed for 160hp or so, when the power is upped do the rafts
move around more causing instablity?

Changed the bushings out today, went from 1/2" of movment down to none. The new bushings
are very stiff!

Ran out of time so no test ride but I'm optimistic that this will cure my problem..

So, can the E100C6001F (S2) raft bushes be used to replace the C100C6006F raft bushes in all six raft positions (#50 & #51, 3 per raft)as replacements for the C100C6006F raft bushes (since the C6006 bushes are NLA)?

Thanks in advance for the clarification...

I believe the answer is NO.

The S2 bushes are larger than the other bushes.

Hi Don,

Just to expand on that a bit.....

....the rear raft bushes are a much larger diameter than the front ones and so will not be usable in that location.

I had the same issue (of availlability) last year, but after extensive research and attempts to get some made, I gave up as there is a cheap and easy(ish) alternative, using Lotus parts from the Aftersales list - so they're cheap, but may be in short supply...

When you've got spare time, have a read of my post here - it's not the shortest of posts, but it may help you out.

Hello, Dave,

I enjoyed your novel- lots of excitement and a happy ending :P ...

By reducing the height of the center tube and cutting down the rubber, the D100C6018F bushings can be made to work, then?

Thanks!
