Driver's side door latch-broken?

Postby Gary1958 » Sat 10.03.2012, 20:20

I picked up my new car today and i'm very pleased with it. However, all was working well until i locked the car using the key on the passenger side. Now the door catch that is used to enter the car on the Drivers side does not work, there is no resistance on the latch. The door can be opened from the inside with no problem.

Help required please, access to the doorlatch via the trim panel i guess? I have requested the Manuals Access but this has not been granted yet?

1st can you lock and unlock from drivers side? If not i suspect the connector bar has come off, and yep its door trim off i think :( Most of the fixings are on view, need to take off the door locking button, the red clip often breaks but are easily obtained, the hardest bit is getting door carpet off for the fixings underneath.

Its quite easy to get to once you have removed the door card ,However you will have to remove the carpet trim at the bottom of the door and this is usually stuck on with glue not a good idea if you remove it in one piece its a good idea to get hold of some sticky backed velcro for when you want to remove it again because no doubt you will .You will also have to remove the infamous orange clip on the door push button which can easily break when you remove it
Good luck I hope you sort it out

i also found this post above with good pictures;

Specky's picture 4 is my problem area so once i have the trim off i'll work it out.

And I also need to understand what's the "waste gate wiggle"? Quoted by Briggsy. I 'll PM him later

No problem, if you need it let me know alternatively come to the essex meet in Rickling green on tuesday and I'm sure someone will point yo in the right direction. The wastegate wiggle involves some penetrating fluid and a pair of grips to relase the actuator. Are you experiencing no boost or overboost otherwise the wiggle isn't needed.

David,

When i push the throttle slowly and gently at low speed all is well but when i try and give it full throttle we started to fly but then suddenly hit a cliff and the MIL light came on for around 15 seconds and went off again?

Ahh overboost, has it got any aftermarket boost kit fitted? As these can be a problem, if not most probably is wastegate. Ive seen it wiggled in situ with a pair of pointy mole grips rather than removing it.

Hi Gary, The wastegate wiggle is required when the actuator sticks and you experience overboost. Basically you'll be driving along and then when you want some hard acceleration you boot it and it jumps like a kangaroo on a trampoline, a light comes on the dashboard and you are in limp home mode. Don't panic, you just take a pair of mole grips to the actuator and wiggle it, (just a little bit), after you've parked up and stopped the engine, ha-ha! if you look behind the heat shield you'll see a few marks on the actuator rod.
The custom exhaust didn't help, as it was made to measure and eliminated the squashed section over the sub-frame.
You may find that it isn't an issue and hopefully you'll have plenty of miles happy motoring in it, once you've got in that is, can't help you on that one.
All the best,

Back on topic, finally removed the door trim to look at the latch. In fact all that had happened was that the connecting rod had come out of its slot/linkage further down the door. However, having put this right i now find that the central locking just makes a noise and doesn't lock the door! Had the trim on and off 3 times in the end but at least the latch works now. All good fun though. :lol:
