turbo shield

Help been stuggling trying to remove the turbo shield the bolt down the left side is being a bugger, I've tried rapid ease for the last three days no luck, any suggestions would be welcomed,

I had exactly the same problem (not any more thanks to deeaitch's stainless kit) and managed while lying under the car with a flat ratchet spanner wedged in place with a sledgehammer shaft. Good luck!

I also tried to undo these nuts yesterday and failed. Left them soaking in "Shock and un-lock" to try again this weekend

Also, with the Wastegate wiggle am I trying to turn the rod using my long nosed pliers say from 12.00 to 3pm (as in, move the pliers from the engine to the bumper)or move the rod from right to left etc?

Hi Gary,

For a succesfull wiggle you'll have to move the 'needle' axial! Turning will not do anything.
You could try to undo the nut when the turbo is still hot, but make sure to wear proper heatresisting gloves! (not the ones in your kitchen mind you... )

I didn't - I took the whole shooting match off - got the turbo rebuilt and the studs drilled out.

All replaced with brass screws smothered in copper grease.

Is the turbo heat shield strictly necessary? Mine was destroyed in getting the turbo off to replace a cracked manifold. So lightness has been added...

further to your reply i've still not been able to remove the heat shield. However, having seen a second hand turbo unit for sale via Steve Strange on flea bay (its still there if somebody needs one) I can now see exactly what is required and understand how they may stick etc. I'm glad i didn't try and turn the spindle as i could easily have broken it off

i don't manage to remove the two screws either, sorry to ask as i'm french and my english is not too good,
and i want to be sure that i read you properly.

if the top screw is broken (shear off), i think it is not a serious issue, i think it is not in solid 'mass metal.

what about the side one then ? This one seems to be screwed in the solid metal. If broken, does it mean a trip to hell ?

I take the "Queen of hearts" pragmatic approach to these bolts - "off with your head"

then fix the problem later - usually a drill out and helicoil - or i,d spot weld a threaded shank onto the sheared thread - then use a nut and washer versus a bolt
