Stainless Steel Door sill plates

Postby wayne » Mon 30.04.2012, 22:19

I don't really like cosmetic mods on the elan but after seeing this old thread I would love to find a pair of these? does anyone remember where they came from? Or have any they would like to sell?

The ebay link seems to be dead.

I think to have them made from stainless steel instead of aluminium would be better. plus probably "slightly" larger?

I have also seen some with blue logos that I imagine would be wired to illuminate with the interiour light? Maybe a bit too much bling for an old fella like me
But maybe still kinda cool?

Just a thought on other logo options.....

I would be very interested in a set if anyone knows of a supplier?

elanman. thanks for the link. Unfortunatly a bit OTT for me. I would prefere a metal plate instead of a sticker... but something else to consider.

Thanks for the post.

Wayne

If you do manage to source a pair of these then my advice would be to mount them as far back on the sill as possible. They do look really nice but they scratch very, very easily.

I mounted mine too far forward and any grit on my shoes now drags across them and produces unsightly scratches. :(

Thanks for te advice.... I would be happy with an aluminium one that anyone bought and didn't fit or Look at finding the same product in stainless steel that I hope would be a bit more durable.

They do look good :) and are only visible when the door is open..... plus they take your eyes away from the scratches I have on my plastic sills :)

Many thanks

I'm still unable to source a set of these so I am looking at having some made.

Please could someone take measurements of the above sill plate if you have them fitted.

I had a quick measure of the sill and I believe 45mm x 600mm would be the largest I'd get away with
without it looking OTT. I still think the origional pic size is probably the best.

could anyone email me a higher resolution picture?

plate.jpg

I will be having them made from polished stainless steel. or the brushed effect (sorry do not know what they call it). still can't decide what will look better.
Any opinions?

I have contacted a company in Yorkshire that has offered to make them. They have asked for exact dimensions and details on the logo before they will give me a price
Up to now I have only asked for 1 set.

If anyone else is interested in a set or if anyone has a set from the origional group buy that they have not fitted and would like to sell. Please let me know.

Many thanks

Wayne

Price dependent, I may also be interested in a pair.

Would you consider a group buy, and if so return to your supplier to see if they can confirm their willingness to produce multiples and maybe provide indicative costs

I'd also be interested in a set, price dependent. BTW, would this company in Yorkshire happen to be in Leeds, because I tried to get a set made similar to the attached photo, but the price for one set was too expensive.

Instead of waiting for a reply, I decided to use my own judgement and initiative.....

P1010001.JPG

P1010002.JPG

The first is just to show the logo which we had, the second to give an indication of the size/shape of the ends.

The longest edge is 490mm, and the height is 35mm.

They were made out of an aluminium material and although they look good, can be susceptible to minor damage just from getting in and out of the car (not really noticable unless you look closely). I would expect something in Stainless (brushed would be my preference) Steel to be better.

The logo on ours is black, but I think etching would look good.

Thank you for the info and pics Pinky / John

I was origionally thinking about using 2mm stainless but I'm wondering if this would be too thick?
The origional looks like it has nice rounded edges but the stainless would have to be laser cut so I don't think it would looj the same

The plan was to get the logo etched and then coloured black

logo 6.jpg

I likthink they would look good in either polished and brushed finish. I guess brushed finish wouldn't show scratches as much as the polished finish.
But there again stainless should be harder to scratch?

I'm still waiting for the company to get back with some idea of price. Bradford Laser

So... while I was waiting I emailed a few more places today to see what can they can offer :-D

I'm hoping that someone will come back with a good quote.

lansledj. Thank you for your kind offers. I may take you up on that if this ends up turning into a group buy

Could you also think about asking Laser iT as they are 5 miles from me and I may have some more work for them.

Email sent to them Geoff.

I didnt see any mention of the etching service but it may be possible to get the plates from them and have them etched elsewhere.

What thickness are the set that you have? I presume they are held in place using double sided tape?

The metal is thin. Very thin. The rear is covered with double sided tape and the edges are bevelled. I've measured the metal at 0.5mm and the maximum thickness at about 1.5mm.

Just a quick update.... I've not dropped the idea of the sill plates.

The few places in the UK that actually bothered to reply to me quoted very high prices......

Since then I have contacted other companies in Asia that have come back with good quotes.

I went with the orogional dimensions and designs as in pinkys post.

If all goes well I should recieve 10 sets of polished and 10 sets of brushed stainless steel sill plates in the next few days.

I have first set reserved in either brushed or polished (depending on which I prefer)
The rest will be available to LEC members at my cost. I'm expecting a max of £15 / pair.

I wasn't going to post this untill they arrived but unfortunatly I may have to go to the US in a couple of days and may not make it back to Bahrain before I go on vacation So may have to ask the wife to bring parts to the UK for me.

Just wondering if anyone else would be interested in a pair of stainles steel sill plates. Polished or brushed finish are currently on offer. (sand blasted, titanium or gold finish are possibly available later).

Sorry at this point there are only 10 sets of polished and 10 sets of brushed available. so it's first come first served. I will add pics asap. Anyone tha adds names at this point is for reference only. not comitted to buy untill I have the parts i hand.

If anone else would like a set please add your name below

1. Wayne Polished or brushed finish
2.
3.
