If you were lazy, and needed a quick oil change, would you ever trust your m100 to one of the in/out oil change places like J#ffy L#be?

I thought I could go in with my own filter and see if they could service the old girl.

I let the guys at the Air Force base where I work do mine. They charge $7.00 if you provide the oil and filter, and will take care of it while I'm at work. I take them the filter and the Mobil1, and I pay them a little extra because it's such a pain in the arse to get to the filter. I've had no problems so far. Other than it being such a pain to get the filter in and out, changing the oil on the Elan isn't brain surgery.

In San Diego:

Jacks Muffler Shop on University and Mississippi in North Park. Ask for Nick. He is great. 20 bucks with your lube and filter. Not to mention the great job they did on my catalytic converter and new muffler tip.

Just be sure they know how to lift it up, there's alot of fragile
fiberglass under there..

One of the reasons I went with this shop is because they have drive on ramps. The whole car goes up. Nothing touches underneath the car, the tires drive onto the ramp and it's designed for his really low custom car customers. It's also the reason my regular mechanic couldn't do the oil change. He has a X type lift. So definitely was a requirement for me.

I took mine to the friendly local oil changer. I talked with them first, satisfied myself that they weren't doofuses, and watched the whole procedure, then checked the oil level after they finished. They have a pit-type arrangement to work underneath, so no worries about lifting the car. I took my own oil and filter and they did OK. Changing oil ain't like changing a cambelt; with the Elan it takes patience to get to the filter but that's about it. That said, I now change my own.

I would like to do my own, but because we have HOA I have restrictions . I can't do much ouside of my tight 1 car garage. Doing car things in my carport could get me a "letter" So I have to pick my projects wisely... The limitations of living downtown. _[]_[]_[]_[ ]_[]_[]_[]_

Mine has similar rules....most of which I ignore. Heck, I swapped the radiator out of my Disco in the driveway the other day. Fortunately, I've got a 2 car garage for my Series and the Elan, but the Disco is to tall to fit.
