Drivers side window wont lift up

A really short message just to ask for help re: my side window which is stuck in the down posistion The glass when it trys to come up isnt straight (hope that makes sense) im guessing that its maybe come off the window rail or somthing?
Any tips please for the fix, im guessing the int door panel will have to come off? if so is it a easy job?

No its not an Easy job its an absolute pain in the arse, Good luck ,There is a fix on here somewhere . make sure you have the required butterflies and orange clips before you start because they will be broken or they will break when you strip it down

Does it move at all?
My passenger window used to stick halfway when I bought the car. This was simply because it never got used. I cured it just by using it regularly
My driver's side used to go up unevenly (& still does a little even after rebuilding). I usually push up the rear by hand gently when winding up.

PM me if you would like to talk it through (I'll send you my number) most of the window issues are easy to rectify, but only if you know what you're doing.

If you're at a total loss then it can take days.

Thanks for the replys, It will come up a bit, maybe 4" at the front and level at the back and then just jam, iv had a search on here but cant find anything that resembles instructions re: taking the int panel off etc

Mines done it on the passenger I took it to a garage and he can't do it!! Wtf!!

I thought there was more. Try a general search on window lift... I know there were detailed pictures somewhere on this site. Good luck, take pictures and make an update to the wiki with what you learned.

My O/S one is exactly the same and my N/S one hasn't worked since I had the car
If you grab hold of the back of the window whilst you are operating the switch and give it a pull it should come up O K .The windows are the achilles heel of the Elan crap to say the least !!

There's a very good chance you'll have a pre- mod Main slider which has sheared at the normal place. This cants over at about the 4" point, which in turn jams on the rail and cants the window over. It's 2-3 hours to undertake the task. This is where you need to know what your doing or you'll turn a simple task into a 2-3 day task. Cost to rectify.... about a tenner... If you utilise someone who doesn't know Elans... You'll be talking hundreds, mainly in labour charges.

Today I'm going to overhaul a unit for Gregory, so I'll do a full write up because the information for undertaking this task is now in several areas...

As a side note, I had a problem with my near side window and could not get it to run true so left it up disconnecting the motor thinking I'll have another crack at that. Well 2 years later I did when I was doing the inner sills, or at least connected the motor to see if it still had the same problems and low and behold it worked fine, nothing had be changed since I cleaned all the runners and replaced the centre slide and butterfly. I think it may need some friction in the center mount (butterfly) to hold the glass in position but not sure as I did not look any further as it was working.
