Re: Stainless Steel Door sill plates

Postby wayne » Wed 01.08.2012, 20:22

Just a quick question for anyone that has fitted any of the origionals Or Geoff that has them sat in his livingroom.... What's the tape like that holds them in position?? Company making them has asked what type to fit. basically thick or thin?? I would prefer the thin tape so as it's not visible but I guess the most important thing is it's going to have to be strong enough to hold them in place.

Lotos. I will provide pics as soon as I recieve the parts or see if the company making them can supply something before they ship.
If anyone decided that after seeing the pictures they are not happy with them it's not a commited to buy item.

I was hoping to have recieved the parts and supply pics before I posted any info on them. It was just due to not knowing where i'm going to be for the next few weeks I thought it better to see what kind of interest there was for them.

Many thanks

Hi Wayne.
Not seen the originals bit I imagine the thin double sided tape that you would use to stick on the Lotus and Elan SE badges on the rear is the stuff to use.
BTW, thanks for your efforts with these sill plates.

Cheers John.

I got back to them and requested thin clear high strength double sided tape. They seem to think that it fits in a slot so I sent them pinkys pic to try to make it clear that it sits on a flat surface and that the tape should not be visible. It does seem to be confusing them a little....

If all goes pear shaped I will tell them to swend them without it and maybe look for a roll of this stuff.... I know it was used for somethhing on here recently and I saved the link.
Tape

They have promised to send pictures as soon as they etch the logo onto them. I hope they do it soon.... they are supposed to be here by the 5th Aug.

Wayne,

The stainless is ~½mm thick with a bevelled edge bringing the total thickness to ~1mm. The double sided tape appears (mine seems to have amalgamated with the tear off backing after so long in the loft  ) to be about ½mm so that the edge fits flush with the sill. I've also sent you some pictures (including B post caps) as "the board attachment quota has been reached" :banghead: .

Thanks Geoff. Got the pics.

I have sent the idea of supplying the tape seperatly as in your pics. that way if it's not good enough everyone can choose their own attachment method.

Looking at your B post caps mine are way darker on the top surface and kinda green on the lower surface..... I will send you a pic in a few mins.

I have asked for the plates to be 1mm thick instead of the origional 2mm idea.

I'm not sure about the edges. as it's made from stainless steel and not aluminium I expect the edges will be vertical and not beveled which is why I went for the thinner material.

I was hoping to have recieved these today.

Unfortunatly I have not heard back from them since Friday.
I guess they don't work weekends :(

Fortunatly my trip to the US keeps getting delayed..... I just hope I get them here before 14th so that I can stick them in my or my wifes suitcase when we come to the UK.

I have asked for pics to be taken when they get the logo on them. As soon as I get the pics I will try to work out some way to post them on here.
