Not sure if Nick Lowe qualifies as non-mainstream in the UK, but this song is seldom heard in the US, very catchy and deffo non-mainstream:

Also painfully catchy, a French indie-pop duo called "Orwell" doing covers of old 60's songs and instrumentals that sound like soundtracks to old Bond films:

And there's painfully more obsucre, non-mainstream yet catchy stuff you won't hear anywhere but in my car/home/phone. Beware.

This is an old slave song updated by a Vancouver band. I first heard it when I was 18 or 19 sung by a black man I worked with. (Note: I’m in Florida about 40 miles from the Georgia border.)
