Catchy NON-mainstream music

Postby nitroman » Fri 14.09.2012, 21:40

Please broaden our horizons.

I'll return this weekend with a couple suggestions.
Strive for perfection in everything. (given time)
Take the best that exists & make it better. (given inclination)
If it doesn't exist, create it. (God did)
Ignore what I say. (good advice)

Not sure if Nick Lowe qualifies as non-mainstream in the UK, but this song is seldom heard in the US, very catchy and deffo non-mainstream:
Nick Lowe - All Men Are Liars

Also painfully catchy, a French indie-pop duo called "Orwell" doing covers of old 60's songs and instrumentals that sound like soundtracks to old Bond films:
Orwell: Fear of Mars
Orwell - Clair
Orwell -toutes les nouvelles parlent d'hier

And there's painfully more obsucre, non-mainstream yet catchy stuff you won't hear anywhere but in my car/home/phone. Beware.
"Refitting is the reverse sequence to removal, but you swear in different places."

This is an old slave song updated by a Vancouver band. I first heard it when I was 18 or 19 sung by a black man I worked with. (Note: I’m in Florida about 40 miles from the Georgia border.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRNou-7gI4o Óró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile byThe Dubliners (listen from 1:25 on)
I first heard this song when I was about 8 years old on a record of my father’s. I know this may not be the perfect audience for it.
