Column Switch Wiper

Postby ccb056 » Mon 01.10.2012, 01:07

So the column switch for the wiper broke off during some spirited autocrossing (by the other driver ;) ) and now we are in need of replacement.
This is a fed car, looking at the parts manual it is not the same as the non SIR cars.

Which cars also came with this switch? I thought the GM Cavalier had the same switches, but the images on ebay are not a match for the lotus part.

Don't know any GM interchanges and the RH drive switch (A100M6049F) is matched to a Vauxhall. The correct Fed number is A082M6454F. DBE shows it for $93.50; Lotus shows it for GBP43.79 from UK dealer. US Dealer should be able to order it but there will be a fee for import costs.

That is great for non US / FED cars. Because our steering column is different, we use a different, unique switch.

Does that mean they are the same switch but one is brushed aluminum and one is black or are you still talking about Vauxhall switches which will not help ccb056???

The Fed car has a different part number for both switches and while the NON-US version shows to be a common switch used in a multitude of cars, the US one only shows up for the US Cars.

I found a aluminium stalk that fit onto a broken stalk so I did both sides....
I'll see if I can find them....

Thank you for clarifying. I believe they broke their stalk off at the pivot so there is nothing left to attach the trim stalks to.

There are lots of stalk repair kits in the US but our stalks thread into a block in the switch and when you "break" one, the block breaks, not the stalk. I am using the Pontiac and main line GM switches as examples. I haven't looked at my Lotus to see what is actually used.

Yes, I am sure. Looked it up in several catalogs. The US/FED/SIR uses a different switch. I always thought it was a different angle for the stalks, but then realized the ROW LHS switches were the same as the UK ones. I believe they are designed like the US ones to prevent getting skewered by partial stalks and possibly at a lower angle to stay out of the way of the airbag.

I thought I once looked it up and the Esprit showed up as sharing the switch, but now, the number just shows the M100 Federal SIR. The Lotus Price Book calls it "Wash Wipe Switch-SIR". DeRoure only displays the M100 when you do a part number search.

DeRoure now shows the Esprit using a B100M6454F as their part number BUT the Lotus Price book doesn't have that number listed, so it is another DeRoure mistake.

It would be good to know what the actual differences are between the OTHER switch and the US/FED/SIR switch.

The pdf part manual I have also shows A082M6454F for SIR cars (p 143-144) 'Elan M100 Parts Guide v6'

The M100 shares BOTH of it's column switches with the Esprit (and others). Do a DeRoure search of the ROW Wiper Switch A100M6049F and you will find it is used on 340R, Elise, Exige, Esprit, Europa and Elan. The part number is based on the first car they designed the part for. Remember, the hubcaps we use are also A082G6071F and if you research the hardware for the M100, a lot of it is x082xxxxxx based.

NO!!!

Look to the right and Part ID #6, A082M6454F only has a 1 in the SIR column. A100M6049F has the 1 in the Non-Sir column

however the CTS is the same part but has 2 different numbers...one for the Esprit and one for the Elan....
just making sure youve double checked as Id rather you got it right rather than buying the wrong part....
but if youve checked and double checked and youre happy then go for it.....

we are fortunate in the UK in that its a GM part.....

And the Esprit CTS works fine and is MUCH less expensive.

The SIR car requires a different (air bag) column and location of the switches, thus the different part number.

thats fine then.....as mentioned...just checking youre getting the right parts.....even if the only part number listed is an Esprit part........
