what about all those wonderful calm blue sky'd winters days.........love driving those days best of all, hood down. Any-hoo more power to you Sandra and yer shiny bits if thats your bag.

Its an interesting debate going on right now between those perenial polishers and restorers, and those who prefer original looking vehicles with their patina reflecting the vehicles history. I looked at the pictures of the Bugatti Atlantique that won the most prestigious concours event in the States with horror. 4 million dollars later a ruined vehicle, with little to link to its history, a mere museum piece probably from now on.

As for my Elan a previous spray with too soft a paint finish has left too many chips.............oh well I will have to save my pennies. Hopefully the vehicles value will at some point rise and make it worth my spending the money. Such a shame the the market hates the car!

I also enjoy driving with the hood down in winter, complete with my flying jacket but saying that i think a nice Sports car should be cleaned and looking its best i always admire a car thats been looked after.
At the end of the day its each to there own........ I know my daughter loves her VX220 Turbo & wouldnt swop it for nothing else (within reason) and she like to keep it spotless she uses it plenty but not in winter when the grit and salt is down , i know what this does to a car, a good few years ago my husband had a imaculate TR7V8 Rally rep, A really mint car inc the underneath, he took it for a new custom exhaust fitting and collected it a couple of days later only to be caught out with the weather (lots of salt on the Roads) drove it back home , parked it in the garage, a few days later put it over the pit and couldnt beleave his eyes the damage the salt had caused a week of of hard work had it back to norm but left any longer......... so only winter driving for me when theres no salt etc. and to keep it clean and polished

Looks very tidy!
Black is an outstanding colour, but it does take a lot of work to keep looking good (after 3 black cars in a row I gave up...! ).
Agreed on the salt - Mog stays in when that arrives - have the (rebuilt) 90 to play with when conditions turn rough.
That Marcos motor looks stunning... Looks too big to be a 2.9 Cologne engine, so i guess it's one of the larger V8s?? Very hard to tell with all the reflections

Yeah, of course you are completely right.

When I wrote my reply it was after an exchange with another enthusiast elsewhere about the rights and wrongs of some of the extreme renovations that one sees in the classic world today

Your car looks fabulous and will out live many other less well looked after examples. (NB I am very jealous of your pit facilities)
