No heat shield

Might re-post this in exhaust section also....

Just got Piper system installed with the ceramic downpipe and got car back from mechanic. Noticed that he did not mount the turbo heat shield. Seems as thought the heat shield mounted to the old downpipe/catalytic converter assembly, so they had to leave it off. Only one of the original mounting points was left after putting the new downpipe in. It would be possible to use it, but they would have to fabricate a new bracket. Any reason for concern without the heat shield? Any info is appreciated.

Others used the one mount provided by Piper and made a bracket from the PS pump to the shield for a second attachment point. Look at HJ2's posts. The shield(s) probably should be reinstalled.

I'm in the same boat, I've just got the top shield covering the turbo.
There's plenty of room around the Piper down pipe, I can't see anything nearest to it getting too hot.
Don't forget the original downpipe was much bigger and bulkier and would have past closer so would need the heat shield.

Anyway you can send me a picture of your set up with just the top shield covering? My mechanic is sending me the parts so I won't get them till next week...are there 2 parts to the heat shield?
Can I easily fasten the top shield with no modifications?

You'll definitely need the top heat shield if you don't want cracks in the top clamshell and a bonnet that starts deforming...

Anyone know of a turbo heat jacket that will work with our turbo? Attaching the top heat shield with only 1 bolting point doesn't seem ideal (rattling)...and I'm not creative enough to come up with something custom to get 1 or 2 more places to bolt on to.

Houdini wrapped Smaug's turbo and downpipe with some manner of high temperature wrap then attached the heat shield with a single bolt. The wrap prevents rattling.

Any idea what the wrap was or any pics?

Wrap works perfect and has good insulation.
However, the surface is porous, so make sure you never ever ever spill some oil on it, or you'll end up with a great fire hazard!

Steve, every time when I think I'm there under the bonnet, i see our pictures and they bring water to my eyes
