Passenger side mirror

Gentlemen, ladies too,

I have a problem with the passenger side mirror
on my Fed. m100. The mirror seems to have detached
Itself from the horizontal and vertical mechanism. The
glass just dangles there not doing anything. I can hear
the little motor behind the glass. How do I get the mirror
out without breaking it? If anyone has a procedure on how
to fix this problem I would be most appreciative.

Sounds like the little spider in the middle is broken (or the attachment for it).

Mirror should be held on by the 2 pivot pins. You should be able to just pull the glass off (carefully)
I just happen to have one sat in front of me Maybe this pic will help.

I finally found the wiki link. Outside mirrors DeanG's write up is excelent
It is much more clear than my poor pic.

It seems that our cars are very similar. (although a few thousand miles apart). I almost ended up moving out your way a few years ago. I was offered a job in Denver and I was there during the summer.... Then I saw the winter temps....

I love the TEP pipes and BoV. but I will probably switch back to the OEM trashcan or make something similar from cf and try to keep the pipes.

de_stanny. - sounds like you need new pivot pins? Maybe broken? (see the wiki link above). If that is the case and your not in a rush. I may be able to help....

I have recently ordered a few from superbads stl file design to see what is the best material to have them made from. Just waiting for them to arrive.

I'll post pics and info as soon as I have them.

Well after reading your replys (Wayne and de_stanny) I carefully "popped" the mirror back into place. I moved the glass, top out bottom in, and pushed in at the bottom of the mirror and it just snapped into place. Much obliged guys, you don't realize how much you use the side mirrors until you lose it.

Wayne, Colorado is a wonderful place. I moved from NYC 20 years ago and haven't looked back. The temperatures are really not bad at all, you don't feel the cold because of the lack of humidity and that's also true of the heat.
