Hi
The Car belongs to Neil Senior from Rotherham. He had the cover made in Huddersfield - its Vinyl not leather so no water problems. It save on the scratches on the soft top cover and makes a great waterproof seal.

I would definitely like to look into this. Refinishing on my Elan is going to be £2k+ and to protect that area, a spend on a vinyl cover would be right up my street. Does anybody have any data over and above whats in the manuals? I will subscribe this thread and work on it as soon as I can - I am so excited, I am (in principle) less than 2 weeks for respray - watch my topic closely for my eventual respray in 2 years!

I'd thunk a removable cover would be nicer, so when the top comes down, you can lift it off and show off the paintwork.

Spoke with Merv (Lotusnut) on saturday in the services and he has made a template to get a clear plastic protector made (BobBrown already had one on his car) which is inobtrusive so maybe he can start a group buy

I will see if he wants to

Thanks for the reply. I still like the leather effect, Has Neil got the address or phone number who made it. How is it attached to the body cheers. I'm interested in a group buy thanks

I seem to remember one of the Dutch guy's (Michael?) doing this a few years ago, basically wrapped in clear film, the sort of stuff some of us have on the lower wings (also on a lot of porkers etc)
I did consider it once but it was too late, paintwork already shagged by the hood

I think you're right Dave. I seem to remember Mchael had a clear protective strip/wrap on his rear deck when he came to visit me.
I've seen it on a few others and it works well, providing the rear deck's not already shagged out with friction burns

Mines shagged as well but I rarely drive it with the hood up so won't get worse hopefully

With refrence to the stowage cover lid, it is removable and has a chord to tighten it when in place.

when i had my very bad respray done by OPTION 1 i had him apply armour fend ( a clear film ) to the area directly below the hood,
the only problem was he cut through film and the paint when he followed the radius of the hood, so he had to repaint the deck again, bless him ,
it has stopped the paint getting damaged by the hood and when the hoods up you cannot see any difference, you only need a strip about one inch wide

That clear Armourfend makes a much neater job.
I think the leather thing would look a bit clumsy and chunky. A bit like one of those things that Americans fit to the bonnet of their cars. Are they called bra's or something ??

I'd love to get a group buy going on this. I am seriously considering wrapping the front spoiler too. I'll post up when I get quotes.
