starts then cuts out after a few seconds

car ran fine up until i went to syphon fuel out, (reason is im about to sell it and it had a full tank) only method tried was disconnecting inlet pipe hose pipe etc, but i never sucessfully did it as i got pulled away by the mrs put the pipe back on for safety reasons as you do and left it, i thought i would use the car after a couple of days and i get in it go to start car its starts instantly then after 5 seconds cuts out and fails to restart, so without attempting to diagnose the problem i abandon and get in other car, thought i would tackle it this morning and same senario starts then cuts out try to restart and fails due to battery exhaust. it maybe coinsidense it was after trying to syphon i dont know but what would you say would be a good course of action to start with
