Really struggling to find one of these. Its a Mister Minit key, they are defunct, everybody keeps telling me to bring it in, its no problem, then when I bring it in - problem.
I have found YM28 blanks but these are thicker, I'd guess 1mm and the U8 denotes a 0.8mm thickness. Its a flimsy key and the only one I have. Anybody ever had this problem, or should I change the barrel (I have an Engine Start button but still need a barrel or alternative to actually 'switch on') - all advice appreciated.

Jeemy. I am sure that blanks for the ignition key and boot key are still available here (Last time I checked they were both about £1 - £2 each). I have no idea of the part numbers. I just took my keys and asked for several replacements.....
If NLA in the UK I am happy to either post them over or bring them with me in a couple of months.

Oh mate would you? I have the fear of leaving the single, thin, snappable ignition key with my spray guy over the weekend. I'm driving to and from him every day to open the car and remove parts. I am taking photos but will post on the weekend as this is so time consuming.
Google YM28U8 nothing appears. Last chance I have is a guy who reckons if we photocopy both sides and vernier the depth he can get a custom one made for £27.50. If you can pick up a blank in the next few days and post, I'll photocopy the existing key and leave it with the spray guy.
On the subject of photocopying keys, weird as it sounds, did you hear that if you lock yourself out of your car, your wife can phone you and put the spare keyfob to her phone, press the open button and if you hold the phone close enough to the car, it will receive the signal and unlock? I want this to be true.

Have you tried
Timpson? I believe some LEC members have had success with them in the past.

Its Timpson I've been talking to. Over the phone its all "yeah cool mate, bring it down" and then in person its a lot of looking at the book, then the shoes, then the book, then the shoes. Its getting quite tiresome, they all assume I must be a total idiot - keys are easy right? This one seems to have dropped off the map. I'm going to my 5th Timpson tomorrow, the owner is a master franchisee and has access to this photocopy system. They will let you post your key to a main office but its my only key, I am kinda protective of it!!
Wayne for £1-2 just get 10 of them, I'll pay, because these things are not easy to find in the UK, I swear. We will need them at some point.

Jeemy I have a local shop where I normally get my replacements. I doubt that he has 10 in stock but I will see what he can get.
Keys here are a fraction of the cost of the UK prices. I had some house door keys done in the UK last year and thought It would have been cheaper to replace the lock than have 1 key cut!!

Heh yes I spoke to one Timpsons and told him I was looking for an old Mr Minit key blank, he said we can get them, they are £27.50 each or £50 for two. He thought I meant front door keys; I cannot imagine what the reasoning is aside from pure gouging.
Incidentally I believe the S2 owners may use the YM28 standard key blank in which case these can be obtained from keytrader.co.uk for £2.30 including postage.

OK little update. I don't have it here but I got a key cut at Timpson's Number 5 and it worked!
It was an OP DP code on the key from memory - I would guess Opel Double Pole or something else meaning reversible.
The guy was super helpful (the other 4 were not) and fished the key out from the back, cut it to see if it would work and told me to pop back with a tenner if it did. Which it did.
He wants me to go back as its not something they carry on the rack and he will work out if there is a re-order code or if he has any more, he knew it wasn't a standard key but couldn't remember precisely where he found it in his store; so if there are more I will buy them if anybody needs one.
I've spoken to Wayne too and if this bears no further fruit he will try to get some YM28U8 with no particular rush, so there are blanks one way or the other in the UK in case of emergencies. There must be more OPDP keys languishing in Timpsonses.
Having snapped my only key in my van door one wet and windy night, I was saved by my mobile key-cutter who told me another 2-3mm and it would have been irrepairable - luckily there was just enough left to grip and replicate the shaft. Mmmm. Wouldn't like to be in that position again.

Thanks for this thread.
I have only 1 key that fits all locks and the ignition, I need another key cut for peace of mind.
There is also only 1 key fob and wondered whether replacements are obtainable?
Thanks

Central locking activating keyfob? I am struggling with this myself. It seems I once had a Cobra alarm and now have no alarm; as if the Cobra replaced the original, then was taken out and now I have nothing…... I don't have an answer yet as to where the keyfob radio code is received and transmitted to the doors. My central locking works i.e. if you turn drivers door lock, passenger also locks. But I have no remote activation. You as far as I know need to pull the carpet and cover under the tonneau and get a code off whatever is connected to the alarm harness behind the bulkhead in line with the centre console. Let me know what you find and take pics please as I do want to get my central locking working remotely again.

Jeemy - do you still require an ignition key blank ? If so i have one which I got from an LEC member (The Ref ?) a few years ago at Donington. He had a key cutting business and was giving away ignition and door keys like there was no tomorrow. The ignition blank has the code YM 24 on it and stamped Cerrebi, Italy. It is approx 2 mm thick
If it is any use to you I could pop it in the post and you would have it by the w/e. Just PM me your details
