New Hi Spec economy fitted

Postby Nippy » Thu 11.07.2013, 10:07

I thought I would let you know how I got on with my front brake kit. I spoke to Peter of PNM Engineering, Wallasey, he is the P part and loves his Esprits. I told him my Lotus Elan M100 S2 does a max of 4000 miles a year and would not go on a track, it is for road use only. I explained about the fact the car would go quick and stop (maybe) slowly. We talked about the Hi Spec upgrade and he was very helpful. I ordered the Hi Spec Economy kit (2 x ‘Ordinary’ 4 pot silver Hi Spec calipers, 2 x 275 plain front discs, brackets and fitting bolts with some ordinary EBC ultimate pads (no need for Greenstuff etc he said). Ordered on 26/6, delivered on 2/7.
Got them fitted by the people that keep my Elan healthy on 9/7, easy job, they look great and the car stops. I use the brake, it stops, it feels like a modern car, it is BRILLIANT. I cannot recommend them enough.
Anyway, it has set me back about £700 (I know) but my goodness the front brakes actually working makes the driving so much better. I can now drive the car with a smile on my face whether accelerating or rapidly stopping.
(I am now waiting on the 2nd stage, the replacement rear hubs as organised by Jeemy under the group buy so I can fit ordinary discs, pads to the back. The existing Lotus calipers will remain as they work fine for the rear wheels).

I have owned two M100's and I agree with you 100% the first one was B R G and had the original front brakes ,the second one is CALYPSO red and has a full HI-SPEC front brake conversion and the brakes are much much better ,as you say you can drive the car with a lot more confidence knowing that it's going to stop
