Under bonnet labels and VIN plates

Postby mitreklov » Wed 24.07.2013, 23:32

Hi all,

As a new M100 owner I'm after some advise on the following:

My new Elan is pretty tidy for it's age and generally quite original however it is obvious it has had a respray at some point and possibly the nose has been replaced too. The respray was in the same British Racing Green colour as original and a good match too judging by a few hidden corners that I've peeped at.

Anyway I'm ok with the respray but who ever undertook the paint job omitted to replace all the engine bay labels including the VIN and engine number stickers.
Having looked at a few pictures of other Elans I note there are a number of warning and information labels revealed when opening the hood all of which are missing on my car.
I would certainly like to replace the VIN sticker and I read on another LEC forum thread that these can be sourced from Lotus at great expense but I would also like to replace the other labels as well at some point.
My guess is these labels are no longer available, or are they? Does anyone know a source for these labels or ever had to replace them?

One option would be to get them made. I figure that if I could find a budding Elan owner who is willing to let me photograph and measure the labels under their bonnet I could employ my Photoshop skills to recreate them and send them to a label printer that could reproduce them for me. There are companies that will produce short run plastic/vinyl self adhesive labels from artwork for a reasonable fee I believe.

Anyone any input on this?

Anyone want any replacement labels as I'm sure the cost of printing few extra sets would be negligible?

Oh and BTW the VIN stamped on the chassis does match the paperwork, thank goodness :D

Thanks all in anticipation of your helpful input.

When mine was resprayed the labels were all replaced from Lotus - I cannot remember the cost - but we did have to send copies of all the paperwork in order to get them. If you are ever passing Newbury you are welcome to drop in and take some pictures.

Tim

Most of the labels are still available from any Lotus dealer. SJ's, DeRoure, etc.
You can check Here to see approx price and availability.
Parts may not be available even though still listed. Any marked obsolete will only be available if someone has them sat in their parts room.

For the VIN / engine # labels you will need to fill in the attached form and mail / hand it to your Lotus dealer.

If for some reason you struggle, one of the last things I plan to do to my car is to redo the labels, stickers and badges. I have some parts in hand but was not aware you could source complete replacement sets; I will certainly do this.

If not, I can definitely get replacement sets made, I'm going to do this with brake calliper decals and some other little bits all in a one-er, so I'm posting here to leave it in my subscribe list and will report back as and when.
