Just bought an S2

Postby DABgp » Fri 20.09.2013, 11:08

Hello folks. I 'm a returnee to Lotus ownership after about 25 years...used to have an Elan +2.

When I concluded I would like an M100 I looked at half a dozen cars and decided on the one I thought was the best buy...then bought the one which my wife liked. I thought this to be a good move in family politics terms. It's S2 number 175 with 95K on the clock, and looks quite tidy if you don't get too close. I'm generally well pleased. The hood is the most obvious thing that needs attention, but I think that will have to wait until I've done something which makes me happier with the brakes.

I also do some stuff with the Historic Lotus Register.

I look forward to meeting a few LEC members in the NW.

Hi David and welcome aboard,
Nice colour of car (Norfolk Mustard) and a good move to go with the wife's choice, always wins some brownie points in my household :D

Plenty of info and advice to be found on here so wishing you every success and lots of pleasure with the new acquisition :burnout:

Hello David.

Rob, who I've met a few times since he bought his Elan, mentioned you to me a few days ago in a PM. Welcome to LEC and I'll look forward to meeting you, should you decide to come to any of the fairly infrequent North West events.

Loads of information and willing assistance on here, so you'll be supported really well in keeping your Elan in fine fettle!

Was this the s2 that needed the header seal?

Hi David

Good colour choice (i'm not biased or anything!).

Is it the one we discussed that Mrs B liked, or is it another one?

At least we should be able to spot each other at Cadwell!

Hi David, and welcome.

I took a chance to look at the photos on your Flykr. Did you do them yourselves...? They are superb and many are outstanding. So thanks for sharing these!

Thanks Franck. Yes, all my own work. The 70s ones are my old prints scanned of course.

Hi David,

My sincere congratulations for the quality of your shots (so many of them are taken from the right angle at the right moment!!!) and for the quality of your scans too (...a lot of work to get there).

Are you a photographer or simply a very passionate racing car lover?
Would you share some of your photos in HD?...

Cheers,
Franck

Welcome

I've recently bought an Elan as my daily driver and after being used to a modern car, the brakes on the Elan are in need of a decent up grade. I like the look of these:

www.hispecbrake.co.uk/Elan283B4.html

Comes with all you need, a little pricey but should still fit under the S2 wheels

Hello DABgp (David) and welcome to LEC :D
Reading your list of items regarding attention I would suggest-
PNM Engineering for HiSpec brake upgrades
Classic Additions for a wind breaker (purely to keep SHMBO happy you understand)
Car Hood Warehouse when you get round to the hood

Hope you enjoy both the car and LEC

As a photographer I'm just a keen amateur with a favourite subject. You are welcome to down load any of my shots from Flickr full size, so long as you credit me if you use them anywhere.

Yes, the HiSpecs from PNM are on my radar. Already had a chat with Pete.
Windbreak: SHMBO is only four foot eleven and when we went out with the top down for the first time last night she seemed to be well covered by the height of the head restraint and thus didn't complain.
Car Hood Warehouse doesn't seem to list S2. In anycase could do with finding somewhere further north.

Discovered somewhere on the Forum that another member nearly bought her for £6k earlier in the year, but was put off by others saying that was a bit steep. I paid substantially less...

Well pleased so far :-)

Nice! Remarkably similar to my NMY S2 ;-)

I spoke to the previous owner of your car at length around August last year but she was reluctant to move on price (wanted 6k then too) so my search continued until I found S2 #285. One year on I'm still loving it. I'd strongly recommend getting a piper 2.25 with PCE and sportcat or another piper variant, it made a HUGE difference to the performance of my car.

Enjoy! And welcome to the club...
