Removing Rear Caliper - Handbrake Cable

Could anybody please tell me how to seperate the handbrake cable from the abutment bracket on the rear caliper?

I have removed everything else successfully, as I'm going to refurb the calipers while I change over the rear wheel arch internals.

But I can't easily see how to remove it due to old dirt, and I can't clean it easily under there, so if somebody could point me in the right direction as to what to hit/exert pressure on/swear at, I'd be very grateful.

I've removed the cable end easily from the lever (while off/slack). This may not be the bestest of signs. Its just where it passes through the bracket. I can see there is a screw beneath the spring and have read you can remove the whole bracket. But equally where I read that, it just says "remove the cable from the abutment bracket' as if it just pushes through? So I'd rather do it that way and leave the spring on, clean in situ.

It should just push through. Try grasping it with a pair of mole grips and giving it a good wiggle.

Soaking it in penetrating oil or w.h.y. might help..

I put a bit of GT85 on it and gave it a tap, but nothing seemed to move, ditto a wiggle with pliers.

Just to be 100% clear, it should push *out* - i.e. the obvious way so it has tension, away from the caliper, towards the vehicle - right? I'll give it a harder bang in the morning.

Yep, just pulls out, away from the caliper.
IIRC the outer has a rubber end on it which can swell up?

Came out easily once I knew what to do, used a set of standard pliers to press it out gently.
