lack of power...help

hi guys

having a problem with my elan. it will start great, run well on tick over and low revs.
if i try to accelerate the engine just seems to die for a second or two then pick up again for a while and then the same thing happens again.
today i stopped on a small hill to turn around because of the above problem (facing up the hill) and within a few seconds it stopped and wouldn't restart.
once on flat ground it started fine. so far i have changed the plugs and leads and replaced both coil packs. could it be a fuel pump problem?
checked for fault codes, none showing. any ideas

Fuel pressure??? check the pump!

I believe there may be a switch in the seatbelt assembly to provide ignition cut-out if the car goes turtle... could yours be stuck/defective? Best, Bob

The only switch I see in the circuit diagram is the one to turn on the tell-tale light on the dash. On Fed Cars, it might also connect to the warning buzzer control under the knee bolster, but nothing that points to a car shut off device. There is an inertia switch in the battery area to handle serious shunts or roll-over events. The ECM shuts the engine down if it doesn't see the fuel pump getting power.

i have checked the switch (in the battery compartment) and it seems to be working out.

thanks for all the advise. i have changed the fuel filter and also found i had a faulty fuel pump relay. semms to have cured the problem
