SJS Rear Silencer, Sports

Hi, I am interested in improving the exhaust sound of my 1991 M100, USA model. I have seen the Rear Silencer, Sports (stainless steel), part number SJ100S0006 on SJSSportscars, UK. I am not concerned about upping horsepower and I do not want to deal with boost creep. Does anyone have any experience or info on this muffler? Can it be added in place of the factory muffler? Is it the same diameter tubing? Does it have a different sound to the factory exhaust? Any information would be appreciated.

Are there any better alternatives for just improving the sound from the exhaust system?

As long as you don't replace the pre-cat/downpipe (from the turbo to the main cat) you should not run into boost creep. You might have your friendly independent exhaust shop replace the stock rear box with a Magnaflow. Smaug has been outfitted with a 2.5" cat and custom system and the sound is really great - not boomy, not raspy or nasal, just a wonderful thrum that makes you accelerate under every overpass or bridge. It was installed by the previous owner but appears to be a 4x9x14" oval unit (clicky) with a lovely tip welded in, nicely filling the cutout in the rear valance. If I can find a decent photo, I'll upload it. Definitely consider the Magnaflow solution.

Hi, thanks for the Magnaflow suggestion. I have one question. I had a Magnaflow exhaust on a 96 Corvette and it sounded great until you did a constant speed. Then you had to live with the dreaded drone. Do you know if the system you describe droned at a constant speed? Thanks, Ron

I have a Peco rear muffler that was generally too loud. It sounded great when accelerating, but was too loud for conversation, even when just cruising.
I added a Stainless Works oval as a center muffler. It's only 2 1/2" high, so it conveniently replaces a section of the straight pipe.
