Hi Spec front brakes

Hi Guys

Anyone know if there is any real difference between the Hi Spec Billet 4 Radial Economy Calipers and the Standard Billet 4 Radial Calipers, other than the colour?

Also is the conversion really worth the money?

If the economy calipers are the same I'll probably go for them. Hopefully speak to PNM soon and get myself an early birthday present

I think it is just down to the colour, they only come in silver. I don,t know if that means silver paint, our silver because they are unpainted.

Ive got the standard hi-specs on the front and they are great, I also have the PNM rears which I did have a problem with one leaking but PNM sent a replacement which has been fine. Only gripe was they took 2 weeks to send the original ones after saying 2 days.

Finally ordered my front HiSpec Brake Kit with PNM Motorsport written on them instead of HiSpec, had no idea that was an option.

Hopefully they will turn up in time for me to fit them before the National Lotus meet at MBW, a possible 4 week wait though can't wait!

I was also wondering about the "economy" front kit. Just fitted rear PNM kit. Paid extra for red paint which has chipped already so not bothered about getting fronts painted.

My red front Hi Spec calipers have been fitted for over a year now with no problems with performance or paint.
We've been on the Ypres trip twice since and I would think that is about as good a thrashing the brakes would get short of a track day.

Could somme one tell me how larger are the PNM calipers, compare to the original ones?
Hi spec says you must have 60mm mini between disc and the back of the wheel spoke.
I have exactly 60mm where the original caliper is the larger (about 15 mm between it and the spoke).

Just fitted the HiSpecs this weekend. 15" wheels SE
Observations:
Clearance between caliper and the inside of wheel is minimal - had to remove one wheel weight on mine.
Additionally, as clearance is so tight, it is easy to knock the caliper with the wheel when fitting - another reason not to bother with painted calipers.
In order to prevent the hose (Goodrich braided on mine) from fouling the inside of the wheel, the banjo needs angling backwards from the vertical 20 or so degrees.
Bleeding the system tomorrow and will post first impressions.

...so with brakes bled.
Initial feeling was that the pedal feels just a little soft but brakes are very good. Can lock wheels before reaching the floor in any case. Green stuff pads need a few stops before really coming good. Need time to fully bed in but pleased with the result.

After a good drive. Pedal feels fine. More bite for a given pressure than previous - which would seem to make sense going from 2 to 4 pot. Much more confidence in breaking I don't feel myself stamping anywhere near as hard as before.

Just had HiSpecs fitted to the front of my S2 by PNM. They are badged PNM and apparently the gold colour is lighter than previously. Pete Murphy said they won't feel right till they are bedded in, and that turned out to be correct. They're good now though!

Does anyone know if you can paint these as I have a set of Gold Hi Specs which I would prefer to have black, can't afford to just change them out as there's nowt wrong with how they work

I quite like that dull PNM gold, much closer to the JPS lotus gold.

I still prefer the Unpainted aluminium though

Hi David,

Good to see the brakes are bedding in nicely. Just for clarification, the gold calipers used in this picture are the new Hi-Spec gold shade (not specific to us at PNM) and they are less yellow and more gold than previously. I think they look great!
