Hi all
I want to try the A pillar mod in the repairs section
www.lotuselancentral.com/repair/seals.htm Anyone else tried this?
Anyone have any more photos?
Does/will it actually work?
and does anyone know where i can buy some of the seal used(see below)? I can't seem to find any similar seals

Regards
Jon

Jon, I don't know if you see the same on your screen, but this page
http://www.lotuselancentral.com/repair/seals.htm should have 3 photos. If the last photo is of the LEC logo, then copy and paste everything into word or excel or something. The third picture should be of a rubber seal which doesn't come up on my screen for some reason. I

I saw another post where the member used layers of flat, non-absorbing (closed cell) foam and tested after each layer until he had enough. I think it was 1" x 1/4" x 6 feet per foam layer.
Probably a really dumb question, but you are putting the additional material across the top of the windscreen, not down the "A" pillar - right?

I do have some foam strip so I might try it, but I'm pretty sure there is no true fix to wet knee syndrome

The trick is to figure out where the water is coming from.
The idea that Lotus could capture the excess water and run it down a tube in the windscreen pillar is a fall-back to the way VW fixed the first BUGs. It is most likely that the rubber/plastic tube in the windscreen pillar is disconnected at the top nipple or completely rotted away, so the water goes wherever it wants. By blocking the water from getting under the roof (hood) front header, the water can't get to the drain holes and then your knee.
I have looked quickly at the tub I use for testing and neither side's tubes were in place. Have you checked to make sure they are attached and are directing the water where Lotus wanted it to go?
A trick we used at the dealerships to test for water leaks was to seal the car up as best we could and sneak the a big hose attached to a high-volume vacuum into the cockpit and then after letting the vacuum run for a while to "pressurize" the cockpit, gently spray water all around the suspect areas. I never tried it on my M100 since it hasn't had the hood installed for almost 7 years. It did work on all of the sedans and even the MGs would let us see the big leaks.
Just a few thoughts...

Am I right in thinking the earlier cars did not have the drain tubes in the pillars?
