Hi All :)

I currently do not own an Elan, but i am looking at getting one in the near future. I currently have a Daihatsu Copen 1.3 which is a lot of fun and is my first car, I am looking to possibly get an Elan as well as keep my Copen. I have a few questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer them :D How exactly does the roof mechanism work? Is there bad leakage from the roof? and did any elans come fitted with leather heated seats? Thank you!

Hi & welcome to the forum.
Adding your location to your profile is useful. Depending on where you are, you could get someone offering to meet up so you can have a closer look at their Elan. I am sure you would be very welcome at a monthly meet if you can make it along.

Roofs are all manually operated but quick & easy to do. You can't do it in slow moving traffic though because the release lever for the roof is in the door shut.
I'm afraid most leak a little. This is usually at the top of the A pillar (where the windscreen meets the window). Even with new seals & roof, mine leaks a bit. Most are usually better when driving than when standing still so a shower cape comes in handy.

Heated seats are a modification. I had mine fitted when my interior was re-trimmed & I thoroughly recommend them.

Hi Rip,

Thanks for replying, i am living in Glasgow at the moment. Are there any Scottish meets at all? I would love to meet with someone who owns an Elan if anyone would be kind enough to do that! and Thank you for that! :) i love the look of the elan and always had a soft spot for lotus. Do they have any common faults at all?

Hi and welcome to LEC. There are several Elan owners in Scotland and there are some meets: check the forum on the "UK Regional Meetings" section under "General". No doubt one of your friendly local LECers will soon be in contact.

Members of this forum are extremely keen on lists (!) so, without wishing to put you off, here are my 2 starters for 10 of common faults:

1) Leaking window seals
2) Rotting rear wishbones
3)
4)
5)

Please feel free to add as required!!!!

Can anyone show me? :)

Postby mattmacc123 » Tue 27.05.2014, 16:12

:?: I am currently new to the world of Elans and do not yet own one. I was just wondering if there was anyone around the Glasgow/Lanarkshire area of Scotland that have an Elan that could show me exactly what they are like, how they go, and just the overall experience? and Would anyone be willing to meet up with me? Currently i drive a silver Daihatsu Copen, my plan is to keep this and have an Elan as a fun weekend car. Any Help Appreciated! Thank you :D

Hi and welcome.

Not sure where the other Clan Elan members are. There are a few members in the Glasgow area... Scott J, Stevo, etc. I am probably a bit too far north for you pop along and have a look, but if you are up this way you are welcome to have a look. You could try the Bo'ness meet viewtopic.php?f=75&t=5325&start=160 Not sure how many M100 turn up though

Very out of date/inaccurate LECmap. Off the top of my head, Scott J is probably your best bet.
