Samco Hoses.

Hi all.

I've bought a set of Samco coolant hoses and I'm in the process of fitting them. One thing that I've found is that the Samco bottom radiator hose has a long pipe connected from a branch that goes to the header tank and the recirculation pump.
The old bottom hose has a branch that connected to a metal pipe under the cooling fan, and a hose from the other side of that to the header tank and recirculation pump. Obviously to fit the Samco hose, the metal pipe has to be discarded.
My question is, can anyone tell me how this new pipe configuration should be secured under the fan where the metal pipe was?

When I fitted my Samco hoses I was faced with exactly the same problem and I could not see how to secure the new hose and avoid chafing against the (sharp) fan cowling. So, I cut the new hose and re-introduced the old metal pipe..

Nooooo! With all respect to Jim I wouldn't, and didn't, cut it.

Just fit it, it won't foul anything, but a bit of ingenuity with some cable ties if you are still nervous!

I've seen other Elans with the one piece set up and the hose is chafing on the anti-roll bar.

Simply cut a larger section of hose to cover the new and use cable ties.
Do not cut the hose. That aluminum pipe is bound to be corroded.
I routed mine so that it does not touch anything but the cable ties.

WOW! Thanks for all the replies fellas. Didn't expect answers so quickly, but then this is LEC so maybe I should've known better.
I must say I think the single hose is a big improvement because I was getting weeping from the joints on the metal pipe.
I find that if I offer up the Samco bottom hose with the outlet branch at the bottom I have to twist the long pipe to get it into the right orientation to connect to the header tank and pump.
Did any of you have the same experience. If I offer up the bottom hose with the outlet branch at the top, the long hose is the correct orientation.
Does it matter where the outlet branch is, top or bottom?

Hi John,

Everything should go in, without twisting!
The key is in the correct orientation of the S-shaped pipe bit between radiator and engine. This can be 'mirrored' in orientation. If you need to twist it 180deg... then you've got this part the wrong way around

I tie-wrapped the long hose below the rad fan, without any issues (and i Check regularly)

Gents - Before I take the plunge to buy a Samco set, I'm sure I read somewhere on here (can't find it now) that one of the lower Samco hoses was not long enough without some strain and certainly shorter than the OEM hose it replaced. Armed with this concern I contacted Amber performance as follows and also got the subsequent terse response:

"I have read on LotusElanCentral.com that one or more of these hoses are not long enough - clearly an unacceptable situation. Can you confirm this set will now fit and any adjustments/feedback has been incorporated into the design?"

"No idea what you are talking about a short hose. We have been selling this kit for years with no issues."

Can anybody confirm I have misread/misremembered the comments on here and there is no problem with the Samco hose set or there was a problem and it's now fixed or there still is a problem (it seems not from the comments above)?

I fitted a full set of Samco water hoses to my SE about 6 months ago and all the pipes fitted perfectly. So well in fact I don't have any leaks!

There was/is an issue with the induction hoses delaminating, but can't say I had a problem fitting the water hoses.
