Whining noise after cambelt service

If you play under the bonnet you should be able to manually put the car into 3rd gear - which is good for starting off and driving in an emergency..

I was on country roads and only had a few junctions and traffic lights to negotiate. With a sensible left foot and a bit of patience, I managed to get the car to the workshop. Actually, I have to say I am pretty amazed by how well the engine coped with high gear low rev operation.

On another note: The whining noise definitely was caused by the cambelt having been a bit too tight. So that is solved!

It sounds like the same issue that I have with my car, which had a belt fitted by Chris Foulds about a year ago, before I owned it. I've been told not to worry about the whining, which is worse when the engine is hot. I do worry though...

If the belt is just a bit too tight it will be quiet when the engine is cold, as it warms and expands it increases the tension on the belt and whines.
