Calling all Dutchmen

Postby GeoffSmith » Sat 05.07.2014, 16:06

The Golf keeps throwing up "diesel particulate filter f****d" messages, so I've been throwing filter cleaner in and thrashing the nuts off it. Latest error was a Viz like "unfeasibly large signal from DPF sensor" so after some interwibble research, I find out it's a common problem with US built pressure sensors and the fix is to replace them with ones from Malaysia.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - I howk off the sensor and find some of the hermetic seal is missing so I break it open and find one of the bond wires is not bonded. The US manufacturer's quality control is obviously crap but bloody VW seem to be denying a there is a problem, but the interwibble is awash with it. Fourty quid ya bastards and that's probably half the main agent's price.

Mine was just like this! Too much pressure on the bond wires leading them to fracture.

So, I've fitted the new sensor but I must 'adapt' the ECU. The only detailed instructions I can find are in Dutch:

Druksensor Uitlaatgas (G450) inleren

Ga als volgt te werk:

auto op contact,
start VCDS (VAG-COM), ga naar [01 - Motor]
ga naar [Login - 11]
30605 = aanpassing Druksensor 1 voor Uitlaatgas (G450)
let op: schakel na de aanpassing het contact voor minimaal 10 seconden uit!

of

Google translates it to this:

Exhaust Pressure Sensor (G450) Teach

Proceed as follows:

car contact,
Start VCDS (VAG-COM), go to [01 - Engine]
go to [Login - 11]
30605 = adjustment for Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 (G450)
note: check after adjusting the contact for at least 10 seconds!

or

Proceed as follows:

car contact,
Start VCDS (VAG-COM), go to [01 - Engine]
go to [Settings - 10]
select channel 12 and read the value in field 5
set this value to "0"
press "Test" and save the value
At [Coding II - 16] Enter the code 30605 in
note: check after adjusting the contact for at least 10 seconds!

Any chance that anyone could refine the English please?

Having downloaded an evaluation version of VAG-COM, it makes a lot more sense. Thanks HJ!
