High idle speed/tickover problem !

While this horse is definitely dead I believe the cause has been missed. The Anti-Tamper plug is just that (AKA a don't f*#!* with this screw unless you know what you are doing plug ) The reason these little buggers come loose is the small 'O' ring at the top that's 'supposed' to offer sufficient friction to stop it from moving. However, time and heat is the enemy of all things rubber and these harden and flatten out over the years causing them to vibrate out and leave the area. Install a new 'O' ring, set your idle according to the correct procedure and you are good for another decade

That manifold was great to, again thanks, my old one had cracked right through.

Everything is now working wonderfully, now that the heat guards are all secured correctly the car no longer rattles - truly, it is wonderful.

I still need to do some slight adjusting to the gear stick position but aside from that I am set for a long summer, pity I fly out tomorrow in some ways as it will be two weeks before I get behind the wheel again (I hope it rains for you all in my absence )

One query about this plug is how do I work out how far to screw it in? As there seems little effect until it goes in quite deep so I I've screwed it until it idles at 950 but am unsure about this.

the only way to do it "right" is to use elanscan whilst it's in service mode (but you'll have to bridge the wires as you cant use a paperclip at the same time as the aldl plug for elanscan).....

....next best is to go to service mode with a paperclip, and use the dash tachometer (which may not be totally accurate)....

.... as a rough guide, screw the thing in all the way, then undo by 1.5 (or 1 1/2 if you don't use metric!) turns.

Despite my manifold metric misgivings (that's an alliteration by the way) even I can translate 1.5 to imperial
