Sad news about Roland Halliday (inkitin)

I am truly in absolute shock.....having been on many an outing with Roland I can definitely say I will miss him
I true gent and all round top bloke really......
I was only with him about 4 weeks ago at the Lancs meet

I am absolutely gob smacked

My wife and I send our most sincere condolences to all the family

I don`t get on the forum much these days, it was Dico who texted me yesterday about the sad news. I`m gobsmacked about the news. I met Roland a few times he was a 1st class Gent, he also had bought parts from Pinky 1 to keep the old car on the road.

Roland told me that he bought his Elan on the basis of my comments in Classic and Sports Car magazine. Wonderful bloke. Would be honoured drive my car at his funeral, please contact me.

Thank you also everyone who has said they would like to come to the funeral, and especially those who will be joining the convoy.

We still don't have a funeral date but as soon as we do I'll PM you. If you hear nothing please feel free to prod me on this thread or via PM because I could easily miss a post expressing interest (feeling pretty spaced out all the time right now).

Finally, if anyone is still in touch with any members who have left the forum or rarely log on these days I would be grateful if you passed on the news on our behalf.

I am also one of those unfortunate people who didn't get a chance to meet Roland.
I did, however, read many of his LEC postings and he was clearly a good friend to many and a valued LEC member who will be greatly missed.

Thank you all very much again. I have tried to resist posting until I actually have something to post but I'm afraid that due to circumstances we still don't have a date. I also don't want it to appear that we've gone cold on this thread, we are absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all of you who have offered to escort him in the convoy.

I too am shocked and saddened to hear this news I met Roland once or twice and we shared a few PM's and he was one of the LEC stalwarts. He had a good sense of humour, was rational and reasoning, a gentleman and a gentle man and will be sadly missed by many on here and particularly by his family

We finally have a date which I have sent by PM to those who said they would like to attend. If you haven't received this (i.e. I made an error) or are late to this thread please let me know.

Thank you chris.t for the kind offer of flowers. We know my dad would like for some positives to come from his death and as such we are asking for charity donations in lieu of flowers. Naturally there's no obligation at all but I'll forward the charity to you once we've agreed it (I think it is agreed, I just want to confirm with the rest of the family).

On a side note- In my kneck of the woods we shorten ''Isn't it'' to ''Int'it''. However, myself and Jayne changed it to ''Intikin''. He never knew this. I think he took to me because I'm odd.

I really like this and I know dad would too And he did like the odd 'uns.
I thought it might be fitting to let you know where "inkitin" came from, in case dad never said. He told me that once someone was ready to commit to something at work they would "ink it in". I always took this to mean a signature, but he was an engineer so it might also have meant committing to a draft drawing. I've tried googling the term and not really come up with anything so it was peculiar to him, peculiar to the North or peculiar to Civil Engineering. Having read through some of his posts this last week it seems rather fitting because they really seem quite considered.

As a Chartered Surveyor who can just about remember pre CAD days, the convention certainly for constructional drawings was to make a draft in pencil on tracing paper and once the drawing was finalised go over in black ink. When chasing for drawings, the stock reply was they are all done just got to "ink it in". Tracing paper and black ink was used so copies could be made via some duplicating process whose name fails me. Pencil lines were too faint to duplicate. Photocopies were around but they were expensive and could not handle the larger sheets of paper adopted by the industry.

I never met your father but communicated with him on this forum and always enjoyed his posts. He will be greatly missed. Only just now I was looking at the group buy thread for rear light covers and was struck by seeing his name on the list accompanied by this comment.

"Personally, I don't need these covers but I'm expressing my interest in order to encourage and more importantly support the future of Group Buys."

I didn't know Roland personally but if I'm free on the day, I would very much like to be part of the convoy and pay my respects to someone who was a credit to the forum and who's posts I read regularly.
