Clemo, It does however seem a much more limited amount of people than we would imagine need seals, or maybe its time of year?, Im not sure but no interest on here for those seals above which is quite surprising, Its not easy to appreciate an item from a picture or 2, but those Rubber seals are genuinely miles ahead of the originals, I have probably spent way too much time on them , but that's just me, if something inspires me I will persevere and stick at it until its as good as I can possibly get.
Anyway , due to the lack of interest on the Forum I put a set on Ebay, better going to use for someone than sitting here doing nowt.D .

Hard to believe one the big long term Stalwarts of the Forum doesn't have an Elan! . I hope you are going to rectify that situation soon.

Thanks for the replies, we have a pretty complete picture of the situation now for (uninformed little me) and new visitors to this thread, great info!

Mark, I'm sure everyone will be interested to hear about these seals that Jamie has supplied. They look great, let us know how you get on with them.

I replaced a large chunk (about 3 inches on the drivers side!) about 3 years ago and it's time to repair again or replace with new seals. I'm thinking new seals of course, but are they an easy job to fit?

And Jamie, how much are your seals for a pair?

Shaun, the EPDM A pillar seals are very easy to fit, the hardest bit is getting the old sponge completely removed from the bracket, once its cleared it takes about 30 seconds to push fit the seal into the bracket, then its just a matter of pinning the studs in top and bottom, the main body part fits so well it doesn't require sealant, which is great if you ever need to remove them in the future, they can be taken off and on as many times as you like.

You can have a pair of rubber seals for not much more than the price of 1 sponge seal, twice as good for half the price!.

Another sugestion is to all which are interested in to start buying used mgf
Hardtops and make the changes to fit on elan , i believe there are Many people interested

No no no no no! , that wont be happening anytime ever, I don't mind doing a few here and there in my spare time but the thought of doing that day in day out would bring on depression faster than you could spell EPDM, I'm sure there are a couple of guys here that might click this icon... .

A pillars and Intermediates I can do probably enough to satisfy demand, the others only only for VIP's

Jamie, I can see where you're coming from on this, I guess it would become a chore doing it on a daily basis. But likewise, I know there are many people on this forum that wish (as I do) that they had the skills and talent to create these seals as ALL of us at some point will need them!

I know I've got a bit of a reputation for being a perfectionist (ask Stef about the 297 touch up dots ), so I'm sure anyone who may have hesitated in ordering some seals until now will be queuing up to get hold of these once I've reported on how good they are once I've fitted them to the car, and while Jamie is happy to make them for us!

Well - all fitted. The old seals were in a worse state than I expected, with the metal inserts in the originals very rusty.

Biggest job was removing the old seals - a sharp chisel did the job at about 25 mins a side. Fitting literally took 5 minutes a side and I didn't use any adhesive.

New seals fitted perfectly except a little trimming at the top with a Stanley knife. It's not been tested in the wet yet, but looks 500% better.

Update - I was in torrential rain on Saturday and Jamie's seals worked perfectly. I wish my original hood seals were as good......

As Jamie will tell you cleaning the old seal away is the secret
If you remove the rails as I did you will probably find at least one screw each side will be totally corroded in place
I ended up replacing my screws with a suitable low profile alternative .
The corroded screws were ground down and new holes were drilled into the frame which is aluminium (the bracket holes are slotted so theres plenty of room).
You probably don't need to remove the rails but I just got carried away

Just to let everyone know, I have ordered a pair of the original seals from Lotus, therefore I won't be able to give feedback on these replacements from Jamie.
