Hopefully an Elan Owner Again

Postby ElanX4 » Sat 18.10.2014, 23:03

Hi

Long time lurker - first time poster - big Elan fan.

I owned 3 Elans in my youth (not at the same time!). My first was a Calypso Red SE in 1990, then a Pacific Blue SE in '92 which was traded in for a Calypso Red S2 in 94. Unfortunately I don't own them anymore :( If only I could have held on to the S2, but circumstances in '96 meant it had to go but I vowed I'd own one again. Maybe my old ones are owned by LEC members ? The SE was H456 VRR and the S2 was JDZ 4611. DVLA shows they're still about.

I've been thinking about ownership again for a while but more so recently. I guess driving past one every day on my way to work stirs up the memories. Infact the house has 4 on their drive but only one looks to be running. He must restore them. Perhaps its someone on here ?

Today I had to go in the loft to put some stuff away and whilst up there I found my old Elan scrap book that I collated in the 90's. Its full of nearly every magazine review that was printed at the time. Yep, a bit of an anorak ! I also found the order form for my original 1990 SE. Spookily, the date I took delivery was exactly 24 years ago today, the 18th October 1990 ! I think the car Gods are trying to tell me something !

Even 24 years on (I can't believe its that long) they're still such great looking little cars. Peter Stevens really did design a classic.

So hopefully I'll be an Elan owner again in the not too distant future.

Cheers

Welcome to LEC and good luck with the search.

The registration is not on the S2 register - you remember the LE number?

Off the top of my head, no unfortunately not. I'll check my records and see if I've got it though.

If I see someone tinkering I'll have to stop and say hello.
