Hood Falling Seal Numbers

Postby dermotbell » Thu 13.11.2014, 19:16

Hi,
My journey with my hood seals is turning out to be difficult, especially as I fly back to Dubai on Sunday.

The falling pillar or B post seals i have are numbered C100V0121 & 122, these are listed as 91-on by Paul Matty. My car is J reg which is 91 reg, but of course could've been manufactured in 90.

I'm having real trouble fitting these seals and wonder if they should be the parts starting with A, and therefore pre-91.

Anyone with experience (Clem?). If they are pre-91 I now have the nightmare of trying to source the parts, and of course will have some 91-on to sell :-D

Hi Dermit

Easiest way to tell which model car you gave us by the vin number. You can translate it with info on the wikilec

But, the falling pillar seals are on the hood, not the car. My car was the pre vin M8161, so I expected to have to use hood seals for that.... but suprise, some one had fitted the S2 hood to it at some stage

So, please supply vin, but also look at the hood, on the original hood the drainage flap at the rear stops abruptly in the vertical position (about at the top line of the green badge in the pic below, on the later s2 it returns along the body towards the rear window for about 2 to 3 inches
This is the later model hood

SJSports has the older ones, and also picture of it

Hi, yes I have read some of your exploits with your header seal.

I also thought of the VIN no. and mine is a 1 Oct 92, which I think means it was manufactured between Oct 91-Oct92, makes sense as car was 1st registered in Dec 91. This would suggest I have the Correct part (beginning C) which to be honest is a little depressing as they seem impossible to fit (as with many Lotus parts).

My seal has a "foot" which fits under the hood, is this what you mean by continues 2-3 inches rearword?

Ah sorry you mean drainage flap on actual mohair hood. I still have old one so will check.

Also, as S2 didn't start till 93 (I think), did the frames change on S1s in 91 and were consequently used on S2s later on?
