Hood Frame

Postby dermotbell » Fri 14.11.2014, 13:00

Hi all,
In addition to struggling to fit my seals, I have noticed that on the frame the middle section along the window frame on both sides is lower than the front and middle section. I can't believe this is right. In addition to this my back legs that press the frame onto the stowage leg don't do their job (i.e. they are in bent osition). I think this is all linked but there seems to be no adjustment in the frame. I think solving this would also align my seals a bit better.
I go back to Dubai on Sunday (where I live) so would like to sort it this weekend.
I have attached a couple of pics to illustrate.

*** edit. Sorry, i have to dash to a meeting, but look in the hood topic, I am sure it is described there, and also in the manual

Hi Dermot

There is an adjusment further back than your picture shows, there is a concentric washer which needs to be turned
I will try and find another thread which describes it better, and post it

In your first picture you will see a bar running at the top. This bar is responsible for the over-locking mechanism the keeps the hood straight, and also pushes the back of it onto the hood stowage area.

This bar often gets bent, and may need a bit of straightening..... if you try fold away the hood, you might see this bar straining as the hood goes into the stowage compartment... if that is the case, you need to bend the bar a little.

What I did was fokd the hood down, loosen of the bolts holding the bar onto the hood, and then bent the back bend a little more until the bolt was lined up again.

Thanks Megwenda, you seem to be the resident hood man at the moment.

I have tried straightenting this bar a little in the past with no real effect, perhaps more beans required.

I managed to align the mounts for the seals by loosening the nuts that the rail for the seals sits in and pushing the front one down a little at one end. This also made the seal marry up with the window (always good when trying to keep water out :D ).

And by heck do we have some water in Scotland today!, Monsoon conditions here, no water getting in mine though, its in the garage  .

Dermot I think that may be 90% of the problem there, looks from the picture one seal is adjusted all the way up and the other at the bottom of its travel, different screws on each as well indicating previous fettling?.

BTW I spoke to you're Dad at one of the meets during the summer, nice chap  .

Dave, I'm sure that is only a short term situation knowing your skills!..

Couldn't find previous posts, so quickly took a photo ... the bolt and washer you need are on the rhs third of the picture.

You need to loosen off the bolt, then turn the 'washer' until the back of the hood presses firmly on the hood stowage area... this will in turn also straighten out the front
Don't make it too tight, else it will end up scratching the top of the hood stowage lid

If this is not enough, try my trick of removing that bar, and bending it (where the back makes an L, just reduce the angle of the L .. but note, we are talking very few degrees change.. as I said, if it lines up when the hood is folded away, then that is how it should be

Thanks, I ended up bending the bar, this worked. Trouble I found then was that hood latches at front were quite tight do up and undo, by this I mean getting the Teeth past the engagement plate.

Hi

Next step is to loosen the latches, and readjust them

Also, if necessary, a bit of hood adjustment as in THIS post

Never said it was easy:-)
