Hi all !

I come form Switzerland (the region who speaks French). After a lot of bike and cars, i buy a 91' Elan SE (with cat in switzerland ) . I have this since one year and i like this cars

She's 160'000 km = 100'000 miles







I hope to discover a lot of tricks here :- )

Is that lake Geneva in the background? I am in the German part, 30km south of Zurich

Megwenda> Yes it's the lake of Geneva....but i pefer the name of lake Léman I'm near (10km) of Lausanne. Have you look another Elan M100 in switzerland ? Me never :'( It's as dinosaur ?

Well, at least I didn't call it the Genfersee .... and don't worry, your English is a lot better than my French:-)

There are about 4 Elan M100's in Switzerland as far as I can tell, but I have never seen any of them..... I am trying to get insurance for mine, but they cannot tell me what the payout in the event of total damage (like fire or theft) would be as there are no current records of any being sold, or for sale, in order for them to place a value on it.

Welcome to LEC: loads of info and help available here. Beautiful scenery in your pics, but where in Switzerland isn't?

I too will be heading for the Stelvio Pass and Lake Como next September: maybe a meet up somewhere en route for any Swiss Lotus Elan (and others) and the 9/10 UK Lotus cars going is called for.

Rob didn't realise you were coming along: should be good fun.

Megwenda and yakaz: I can let you have the approx. route we'll be taking and the dates if you think it worth an attempt at a general congregation of Loti in Switzerland????

Beautiful place to live, I spent several months commuting from Geneva to Frankfurt. The drive was always enjoyable except for the speed cameras.

Hi Yakaz and welcome.
One "trick" if you don't like the cat, and are feeling brave, is to remove it.
It can be done without damage to anything apart from a few nuts and bolts if you're careful.
With the nose of the car in the air (use either very gently sloped ramps or pay special attention to the jacking points), you will see that the downpipe is bolted to the pre-cat housing with just 3 fasteners. At this point you can see if the pre-cat contains a honeycomb insert. If it does there are 6 more bolts which attach the lower half of the pre-cat to the upper half. Undo these and the ones for the mounting bracket (there's a lower heat-shield to get out of the way but it's a simple case of unbolt, wiggle, tug), and then the honeycomb insert just pops out.
The biggest issue you're likely to have is that time and heat-cycles will have roasted the fasteners into place. Use plently of easing and penetrating oil taking it apart and expect a few sheared bolts and skinned knuckles.
If you have any problems with emissions (which you shouldn't because it's closed loop control anyway), then you can just put the honeycomb insert back in again.
Removal of the restriction should release 5-10bhp, but it would be nice if you could do "before and after" rolling-road/dyno tests to confirm!
If you want any more than that then Alan can sell you a chip which will take it up to around 200, but make sure your brakes can cope.

Thank you for the explanations, Enright. But forthat moment, i think it remains original, because if the police see that, it's very very expensive...and we have a pollution control too
