I have never seen a Audi or BMW being destroyed in top gear... has anyone else wondered why ?

After knowing of the other side of the stratus replica episode i started looking into top gear with different eyes.
Seeing the Audi logo shoved in my face for several episodes in a row
The extremely poor review of the danish supercar (im sure the car is not that bad... and its of all established supercar manufacturers to ensure no new manufacturer appear in the market)
and seeing a 2CV and Renaut 4 being detroyed (no respect for classical cars).
I Now believe top gear is one of the most biased automotive review programs I ever seen (can we even call it a review program?), I find it obvious that there's a fair amount of corruption in the BBC through top gear.

I understand for the purpose of entertainment they have to put cars through unreasonable testing (A toyota hilux comes to mind) but i think there's a BIG difference between damaging/destroying a common car to a classical one.

Now with the rant over.

I think there has been some kind of favor paid by lotus for a positive review (has someone got a cheap evora lately?).

With all that said, i admit i have a laugh at most episodes, even tho sometimes i find their ethics rather upsetting.

Why don't the BBC offer to exchange clarkeson for the lotus I think that would be a good deal we get the car back and no more clarkeson

I looked up the Porsche on the DVLA website and found it to still be taxed and MOT'd, so TG didn't even cash the tax in.

Wonder if they did recover the cars?

I watched a lot of it through my fingers to be honest, and was somewhat relieved that May drove the Lotus and not one of the other two. He seems to have some mechanical sympathy at least, whereas Clarkson I fear would likely have tried to break it.

The interesting thing is, that the Lotus came out very well indeed from the programme (I thought) and I'd expect that the values of V8 models will probably be propped up nicely as more people around the world see the episode. Even had me thinking I'd like one one day.

Wonder what their budget was for the cars? Anyone know?

Respect to the Esprit, it can wear the badge with honour

You have to take TG with a very large pitch of salt, they're really struggling for original idea's, but nearly getting themselves killed .

I find it both entertaining and irritating at the same time

One thing that really amazed me was the amount of support crew they need

I agree about the astounding number of extra's they needed to keep a Porsche going.
Hope they changed the oil on that fab Esprit - got to look after good cars.
as for the yank tank well no surprises there.

I decided a few months ago that I'm going to be selling the Elan and getting an Esprit. Nothing against the Elan, but I've had it too long (much longer than any other car I've ever driven), and I don't really want anything that doesn't have the Lotus badge on it. I can't afford an Evora, so an Esprit it is. I'd love one post 1999 (mainly because of the modern interior), but a 4-banger will be much more economical and almost as fast. This show just made me want an Esprit even more. It was nice to see them not trashing Lotus for a change (even though Clarkson was very positive in his review of the first Evora).

Wouldn't it be great if you could rescue the TG Esprit , wonder what's happened to it,

Surely the Esprit is the only car worth saving of the set, but just imagine the state of it now. The underside must be a real mess for a start.

Certainly a much stronger car than I thought previously.

Of course we saw nothing really of the behind the scenes stuff relating to support or maintenance, plus they fitted a cage. And a towbar...

If the report Geoff linked is anything to go by, perhaps the cars can be reclaimed, but I expect the costs of doing so are prohibitive and the value of them (other to a TG trophy collector) are very modest.
