NEW MEMBER IN NORTHUMBERLAND

Postby roselea » Thu 22.01.2015, 17:09

Hi, First of all congratulations on an excellent website. By way of introduction I live in Morpeth, Northumberland, am a car fanatic and I owned my last Lotus 34 years ago, it was an Elan Sprint 1968 model, how I do wish I had kept it !. 45 sports cars later I have decided to buy a M100 Elan to rekindle the spirit, to use of course purely as a dry day weekend car. I have always admired the M100 model, looked at one or two over the years but never got round to actually buying one. I started my search for a M100 about a month ago and have quickly discovered that there are very few Elans currently available for sale in my neck of the woods. For obvious reasons my preference is to view locally to avoid disappointment ( should the vehicle offered be not as described which is sadly sometimes the case). If any of your members know of any M100 coming up for sale in my area I would be grateful if you could pass on my details. My e mail address is under my avatar on the left. Ultimately if I cannot find one locally then I will have to travel.
Many thanks. Dave.

Hi. I know when my wife was looking for one for me she spoke to a second hand car sales in Spennymoor who has a black J Reg one for sale. Don't know what the car is like but she said the guy treated her like a idiot on the phone thinking she nothing about cars or Lotus. Bit of a mistake really considering she's had 2 herself. His lost... :-D . Best of luck in your search..

Yes, 45 Modern and classic, however the latest intended acquisition is proving the most allusive to find. 6 British, 14 German, 5 Italian, and the rest Japanese. The most recent being a 360 bhp M3 SMG which I hated. The search continues. Cheers.

Hi, I am beginning to think there are no M100s in Northumberland, never mind ones for sale. The only one I have seen in 3 months was in a dealers 20 miles away. Turned out to be a heap, its still for sale. I dont really want to have to travel 100s of miles but may yet have to. The search continues. :(

hi roselea. don't give up. i travelled a near 400 miles round trip to view a car (from a member on here), but it was worth it, as i bought it. and then another near 400 miles to pick it up. have you looked at DICO's car which may still be for sale. its at saddleworth i believe. look for THE BEAST thread in the for sale section. it's had a large restoration, travlelled less miles than a glacier :-D (see his build thread) and is a nice blue colour. you never know, it may be what you are looking for.
good luck with your search.

Welcome, good luck, and please excuse the shameless copy and paste from here on in, but it applies just as much to you as it did the other chap:
With Spring imminent a few more should start to appear on the market.
Have a quick look at our Buyer's Guide and associated topics here.
And don't be afraid to use this thread to post links to a few, to see if we know about them.
There are likely to be local members, some of whom may even take a look at prospective purchases for you, so taking the gamble out of travelling long distances.
And keep an eye on the ones for sale in the relevant section of this forum.
Forum members are often enthusiasts, and as a result you might find a better looked-after example with more desireable options than one owned by someone who never bothered to register and so is unknown to us.
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

Hi Roselea, I travelled 200 miles to get the car I wanted but it was a known quantity from a LEC owner, the right car will be out there for you. As neil says there are always people willing to take a first look at a car for you locally to save you some miles so don't be afraid to ask.
It will be worth the wait, also have a look back through the cars for sale on the forum, the one I bought had been up for sale for a good while and just hadn't been picked up by anyone due to have a few Modifications, OK quite a lot of Modifications but then I wasn't looking for a purist version of the car just wanted one that I could drive and have fun with

No joy with the beast. Still nothing for sale within 100 miles. Would love to get a silver and yellow coloured version but there appear to be very few around. I am beginning to loose faith and find my mind drifting to other makes and models. The holy grail would be easier to locate. The search continues but my patience does have limits, after all summers just around the corner : Cheers. Dave.

How about one of these 4?

The top 2 are nearest and have lots less miles on them. Depending on overall condition they sound very good!!

Lotus Elan S2, 1994, 73,000 miles, British Racing Green, MOT September 2015, Tax January 2015 (subject to new tax rules).

Nice cream leather seats with very little wear, Black hood in really good condition.

Has recently had a genuine Lotus Catalytic Converter, Aluminium Radiator and Samco Silicone Hoses fitted.

I have only this vehicle for 8 years and have only done around 1000 miles per year, there is a history file with the car.

The only thing that lets it down is some of the paint has scuffs and chips, mainly the bumpers and bonnet, hence the price of £5000.

Car is in County Durham, Photos sent on request and will upload here later.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide the information on some local vehicles for sale. I tried contacting the Sedgefield owner by telephone : no reply & e mail : again no reply. It amazes me why people put their cars up for sale then do not have the courtesy to reply to enquiries. I do however have other leads to follow on 2 other very nice looking Elans, have made first contact and am awaiting replies to arrange viewings, so all is not lost. This is the first time I have had the cash waiting, with no part ex and cannot find a suitable vehicle. The search continues. Dave.

Can't understand why you have let The Beast (Dico's car) and JPS Blackie (Scott's car) slip through your hands> Both very good cars but with different attributes.

Scott's car has been snapped up by Par but I think Dico's Beast is still currently for sale

Thank you for your comments. Just a quick update on my quest to find an Elan.
I contacted the owner of the beast by e mail and at that time (which was about 2 weeks) ago he was unsure if he still wanted to sell. As for Scots car I missed that it was for sale completely, my mistake, looks like I missed a good car. I have been searching on the UK cars for sale section of the website daily and have also placed a wanted ad in the appropriate area of the site. I am sure the right car will surface eventually I will just have to be patient. Cheers. Dave.

Yours looks the business, if you decide to sell in the near future please let me know. (But do tell me the price : most potential sellers do not seem to want to put a price their cars. which makes buying quite difficult. Cheers. Dave.

Roselea,

just came across this which looks pretty decent and as it is a S2 with the limited edition number some of the guys on the forum might have some history on it, it has the Hi Spec brake upgrade which is good to have.
Might be worth a look
