Need help/advice with SASE postage USA->UK->USA

Postby lotos » Wed 03.06.2015, 18:03

So I want to send a vinyl album to the UK to get signed, and I need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope for it to be returned back to be at no cost to the signer.

Any advice on how to accomplish this?

Easy enough. Go to fedex and they will set you up with a return envelope and place it inside the one to be sent. A shipping label will be created and placed on the return envelope.

That does seem easiest except that FedEx/UPS want about $150 each way to ship the box!!

USPS is around $40 and I assume Royal Mail is also in that ballpark.

I'm not sure how to go about including a package pre-labeled and stamped box through Royal Mail or whatever. Or maybe I'm doing the calculations wrong with UPS/Fedex.

Randy,

Not sure about your timescales etc, but would it be an option to post it to Geoff, get him to do the UK side and bring it over to LOG35? ( :poke: Smiffy).

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

or....

you can get a cheap flight to the uk, endure the jetlag like a man and fly back :-D

Sounds like a valuable vinyl, personally i would consider that as to make it safe for transportation may be a rather big package ? ... but everyone here knows im crazy anyway

Yep, had the same thought: cheap flight and a chance to meet whomever is signing it makes for an adventure far more valuable than the cost of airfare. I did that in 2002; the signed items were caricatures of the band members drawn by one of them, and posted to the web. I printed, carried and had them signed at one of the last concerts they did together. Memories for a lifetime.

The United Jazz and Rock Ensemble was a supergroup of British and other European jazz musicians from the '70s and '80s. Not your typical pilgrimage but I could not resist the opportunity to meet Volker Kriegel, Albert Mangelsdorff, Wolfgang Dauner, Barbara Thomson, Ian Carr, et al. We purposely timed our trip so we could see them in the smallest, most out-of-the-way venue on their farewell tour.
