Where's best to sell an S2? (NO REPLY/SOLD)

Hi Guys,
Forgive me if this is an inappropriate question for this forum; I’m a newbie to here, though not to Lotuses.

I’ve owned my current Medina metallic green (OK, OK, I know) S2 for over 11 years, and I’m beginning to think about moving it along, but I don’t really know where to start. It’s decades since I sold a car privately, and I’m hoping you can give me some advice on the best (UK) place to put it – AutoTrader or PistonHeads seem to be the obvious places, but are there any others I should consider?

Also, what sort of money should I be asking? It shows 58K miles, and I believe that’s genuine, has a fully-stamped (now overflowing) service book and for the last 12 years has been dealt with by Bell & Colvill – serviced exactly to schedule and any problems fixed by them. It’s not concours, it has its share of stone chips, but it is totally original, and is good throughout. Although I’ve used it in nice weather only, I’ve kept it taxed and insured all year just so that I can give a run every week or so; cars get grumpy if they aren’t used. I would describe it as a good, honest car.
It doesn’t worry me if it doesn’t sell, I’ll just hang on to it for another year.
I was thinking of asking for about £7.5K, is that reasonable?

As a newbie who's new to the forum and just bought my 1st Elan, my 2pence, for what it's worth is start by uploading photo's and a bit more description here.

I found this forum and it's members invaluable when looking. The experts are here and in my opinion the best cars I saw were through here, or LEC members.

I also checked: Autotrader, eBay, Car & Classic, Classiccarsforsale.co.uk and Pistonheads. Obviously some cost more than others to advertise and some give better value for money. But I always checked back in here.

I don't expect you'll get much response on Elan values, it's a bit of a Taboo, but I'm sure someone knowledgeable will PM (personal message) you some really good advice.

You can always use this place to fine-tune your ad, and you may even generate enough intereest to be able to sell it in the meantime.
If you do then so much the better - it won't have cost you anything to advertise, and hopefully whoever gets it will stick around.
Values with Elans can vary massively and be extremely subjective. Therefore because it's such an emotive subject, we generally discourage these sorts of debates as it's like being challenged to take a guess at a lady's age - you can't win, even if you're right!

Condition of a car is a slightly different matter. I think we all appreciate a nice one, and all feel a little sad to see one that's gone to rack and ruin. When that's the case, as an enthusiast I can personally say that it's very difficult to keep my opinions to myself.

At least you can see what a good advert and a bad one look like (we've either had or commented upon both), so you can hopefully cherry-pick the best tips from the good ones, while avoiding the pitfalls of the bad ones.

Reading around on here, I've just realised that my car and situation are very similar to those of Paulous, above, even down to the price and the fact that neither of us is desperate to sell. It is just coincidence, I hadn't read his post before I put mine up, but it does give me an excuse to put things off for a while.

I think I'll probably just put up a short advert in a few days time on somewhere like AutoTrader and then forget about it and just carry on enjoying the car unless and until someone responds.

Now that I've found it, though, I will stay in touch with this site - thanks!

Ah, it's a long time since I was last asked about the signature (if ever)!
The Prisoner was a bit before my time to be honest, in fact it finished just a few months before I was born, but the Lotus connection works I guess.
No, the signature was actually inspired by Babylon 5, which was a sci-fi series that I used to love in the 90's.
However, the line "be seeing you", uttered by a dubious telepathic character was apparently a nod to the The Prisoner, so ironically it almost comes full-circle anyway.

As an Elan owner, it's ALWAYS worth staying in touch with this site, as we've got plenty of experience, tips and tricks that can help you get even more enjoyment out of your car.

If/when you do decide to sell, just post your ad below, upload a few pics and I can re-title the thread and move it to the appropriate section if required - all part of the service!

Bugger! I have just bought a black s2 (had a medina green one a few years ago) and loved it. Was looking for one, hope all goes well with the sale, I could do a deal on my black one, or a better deal on our se brg, cheers Andy
