Yes elans have increased in value like many classic cars but there are a lot of classic cars which gave been for sale for over a year

i agree with you, but dont start boosting the value of the elan just yet, i wanna buy one to speculate on before that

I wholeheartedly agree with Rice crispy, having owned my Elan (Barn find with rats nest on back axle) some 3 years, I have thrown a fortune at it to get it back to how it should be, and still not there yet, but the overriding theme I get on this forum (apart from all of the extremely helpful assistance when needed and many thanks for that) is that everyone "does down" the Elan when one comes up for sale, it appears all negative, whereas if the current owners were to advertise what a great car that was, that has come up for sale, rather than say "oh they are not the correct wheels" and "oh the original brakes were crap you would have to upgrade them" (as for which my original brakes are fine as are all brakes if one drives the car sensibly and maintains them correctly) and "oh, you'll need to fit a mountain chip in that to get better performance" (how much better do you want? there are speed cameras everywhere?) It only goes to tell others that these are not good cars, or a good investment, which as we all know, they are! Yes they have many faults, which were there since production, but surely that is the idea of owning what should already be "a classic car" which should be appreciating in value year on year. Just a thought would love to see this car appreciate in value as there were never many in the first place and now even less, so it should be revered not rubbished by the best Lotus site on the internet.

Don't worry. The prices have already started to steadily head north for good examples and, once the car is over 25 years old (2 weeks in the case of my red one)

I fully expect the prices escalate further as per other classics when they reached maturity. NSX, E-type, baby Élan, Lotus Cortina to name just a few

Having owned a number of classic cars in the past I don't think LEC is any different from other owners club forums in respect of commenting on cars that are, shall we say, not currently reaching their full potential. I'd be first to say that if you want a faster car then buy a faster car but those of us that have upgraded certain components know what a massive improvement it makes to the enjoyment of owning and driving this rare classic. Each improvement/upgrade just puts a bigger smile on your face and its this experience that the people on here want others to share and so encourage them to make the same improvements they have. The difference in cost between a car with all the mods and one without is far less than upgrading a stock car so its no surprise that the advice is to spend a little more and get one with everything sorted. Unlike an Aston total originality doesn't mean a higher price with the M100 but that doesn't stop some people thinking it does. I don't think members are talking down the price they just know that, either through their own experience or following cars for sale, that some prices are ambitious to say the least.

It would be nice if it appreciated like the Esprit has over recent years and hopefully it will take off soon but I bought mine for the joy of driving it and I suspect many others on here bought it for the same reason. Part of the reason I like the car is that it isn't massively valuable and I don't worry about where I park it. When I had a Testarossa I was constantly worried that someone would be keying it or some ferrel kids would be stripping souvenirs off it. I've had mine for 6 years now, longer than any other classic I've owned. Its monetary value to me is only relevant for insurance purposes. For me the true value is in how it makes me feel, in the excuses I make to take it for a spin, in the way I look at the weeks weather to see when I can next take it out with the top down, and the fun of throwing it around a twisty road. I don't think you could ever describe the M100 as a good investment; not yet anyway. What we need is for the car to come into fashion, to appear in a cool TV series. Until then I am still quite happy to spend far more on improving the experience than in the value it will increase by as a result.

If we (as the whole community) want these cars to evaluate. It would be wise to not comment publicly on value of the cars.
I am a firm believer that the elan is a worthy investment, that is part of what drove me to purchase one. I know from following the price of this car for over 6 years that It hit the lowest bottom value 2-3 years ago, In fact I haven't seen a single running car with MOT for sale for less than 2500 for over 2 years. (mine being the exception because of the paint condition)

I honestly believe I have "jumped in the wagon" just before the price takeoff. and all these "unreasonable" asking prices are only making all of our cars value more. but just like others. I would like to keep the prices down. as more valuable car, mean s parts going up on price and bigger loss in the event of something unfortunate. I do not see myself selling the elan any time in the near future. so buying a second one is very likely to happen.

I admit the elan was a medium/short term investment in my head before i sat on the driver's seat. (intention was to restore and sell to put deposit on first house)
after driving it the car is no longer an asset. in fact. i bought a house and the car is outside.
