Taking my Elan to work today, starting it up four times in the day with no problems whatsoever. Have I fixed it? Who knows.

But today I'm smiling, as it's all heading in the right direction. :)

Was washing the squashed flies off the Elan on my drive today when an Army Helicopter pilot from Wattisham who passes twice a day pulled up to say he'd like to buy it if I ever want to sell. Said he's 'after a Lotus Elan and not a Lego Elan'. So I asked "What's a 'Lego Elan?"

"One you spend all your time taking to pieces and putting together but never get to drive it."

I like it... Hands up, who's got a Lotus Elan and who's got a Lego Elan???

I have a Lego Elan. Spend more time fiddling with it than driving it, but I have always loved Legos.

Lego Elans are great toys for big boys who grew up on Lego.

I was a Meccano child - proper nuts & bolts spannering that was. Took a long time to build something significant so wanted to use it and not strip it down for quite a time.
My boys grew up with Lego and it was 'easy come, easy go' - but when they got their first bikes they didn't know which way to turn threads to tighten and which way to loosen :banghead:
Now my 5 year old grandson is mad on Lego Technic but that's still mostly push on, pull off too. Think I'll have to buy him some Meccano - now I've found just the thing, even got 'Turbo' !

(Note it says 7 to 14 so Granddad will have to (help) build it ...   )

Yes, thanks. Got her back yesterday after a week at Sportomotive, cost less than I was quoted too.

thanks for the tip Phill,

when i get home i'm gonna check routes. see if i can avoid Dartford crossing altogether, it enrages me to pay tax on salary + car + petrol and then get asked to pay for a toll? what is the purpose of the money spent on the other 3 taxes ?

Ian,

Is there any convoy planned ?

If you're coming down The M1 you could go anticlockwise round M25 to avoid Dartford crossing, or go clockwise and take M11 down into east London and Blackwall Tunnel. Dartford Crossing at £1.67 will be quicker and cheaper though...

got any tank tape?

Believe it or not, someone from work included a Dartford crossing toll on his expenses to travel from Bristol to..... Stevenage. His sense of direction was worse than James May's.

MOT is due 30th Sept, so being in the period that preserves the date and passing my local garage today I called in to book an appointment and was told "We can do it now"... so went for it. My '93 SE is now on 46,925 (2,385 miles since previous MOT 25/9/14) and it sailed through brake and handbrake tests, with OE discs and calipers, and had 2.57% CO (Limit 3.5%) and 115ppm HC (Limit 1200) so I'm sorted till 30/9/16. (Smile No. 1)

While waiting I noticed the MOT Brake Testing Weights Chart has the Elan 90-92 as 1140kg (2520lb) and the Elan S2 as 1230kg (2710lb). (Smile No. 2) Never realized the S2 was such a 'fatboy'... Is the 'cat' really that heavy?

Then really enjoyed my 3 1/2 mile blast from the Hadleigh By Pass to the edge of the village in my 'lightweight' SE... hood down (of course), sun shining and crops have been harvested so I can see across the corners again, turned the radio off so the tyres could talk to me and arrived on my drive with big Smile No.3. Must admit I can't understand how such a superb car can be so cheap.. :?

It's a lovely run home - reminds me of Cadwell Park .. enter the link and use the 'little yellow man' ...

Found a site on FB called 'Parking like a twat in Cyprus' which produced this picture (amongst many others)

Which apart from making me smile also offers some relief that at least one other person must negotiate the damned speed bumps (and he is even lower than us!)
