Started the wife's Elan this morning off jump leads as the battery was flat, couple of turns and away she went, then while letting her tick over about 10 mins later the revs dropped of and she died. Charged the battery properly but she still will now start. Any ideas.

Check for the obvious first:

Do you have any faults stored?
Do you have a spark?
Do you have fuel?

:agree:

Sounds like you've run out of fuel, but that's a bit obvious..
Can you hear the fuel pump when you first switch on ignition? It should go 'mmmmmmm' for about 1 second and then 'tck' as pressure is achieved.
Some more info' would be useful - is it a long time since previously started and used regularly?
