Door Lock Plunger Linkage

Postby epipete » Sat 11.07.2015, 10:03

On reassembling my door I discovered that the linkage had come loose - very. The door was in one hand the linkage in another :banghead:

The offending item is #16 in the picture, but I can't see where it links to, does anyone know offhand? Of course, without this information I shall just have to grope about but it's like Halloween in there - Dark, Slimy and with sharp bits that want to remove my fingers!

Oh and whilst I'm at it, the bracket (#50) has two holes (these correspond to similiar in the door card) which should take some sort of fixing, but I've tried various screws without success, is there meant to be a well nut in there, nothing seems to fit? Any ideas?

Regards

Peter

Item 16 : I think there will be an arm with a hole in it sticking out of the door lock mechanism and a 4BA nut in the bottom of the door if you're lucky. The rod goes through the hole and the 4BA nut keeps it there - not in your case it seems.
There are other levers with holes but they should be filled by the rods from the internal handle, the external door key and the external door handle.

Pete,

the offending wire bit is often quite loose and floppy anyway (but not as floppy as your's seems to be).

The easiest way to re-fit any of the door lock bits is to get someone else to do it.... failing that, possition the top where it should go and hold with a bit of masking tape (it should protrude from the top of the door card by about an inch), and then you get some idea of possible locations for the other end within the arc that it will swivel in the rectangular cut-out of the door inner skin.

As for the other screws, they *should* be M4 into a metal threaded plate as they take the strain when you pull the door handle - one of mine had been repaired with a short self-tapping screw  - i just re-cut the thread and fitted new setscrews.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

The bottom end of 16 goes into this part A100B6037F (66p) at SJ's. They get brittle and break easily and after a while fail to hold the rod in place. Not easy to fit and when new you really have to push the rod into them. Get a couple as you always need at least one spare.

Managed to find and fix it in but it has a lot of play so those from SJs will be added to my list!

Thanks all.
