Is it possible to fit A/C unit to S2?

Is it possible to retrofit air conditioning to an S2 and has anyone done this?

I dunno about either the S2 or the SE but I've been wondering the same as I have an SE about to go to sunnier climes.

The pipework and ancillary all look very simple (well if anything Lotus is) but I don't know about the or, indeed, any electrics.

Yeah, I think it has been done by several folks. Several have even removed it for whatever reason, but no one has given any write-up or commented on any issues. It's all a bit sporadic.

It is probably very complicated as I think you need to remove the dash to install the evaporator and you will need a 6 pos heater control panel. Then you need: compressor, mounting brackets and hardware, different drive belts for the Power Steering and compressor, freon lines, freon, evaporator, condenser, brackets and clips for the lines and condenser, drier and trinary switch, dash switch. See page 166 to 168 (Section 18.03B) for S2 of the V.8 or S2 parts guide and then whatever fuses or breakers Lotus provided for in the main loom. I don't think it is going to be a really easy task. It would be easier if you had a sample available to figure out where everything goes, but, regardless, it is a lot of work.

Exactly John and (given all the past fun I've had) I wouldn't want to undertake it myself without much preplanning but fundamentally it is all just meccano really and could all be done in stages with the final pieces being the Belts and system pressurising. The Brackets and ancillary fitting might prove most difficult to source.

It's the lack of a detailed example from someone who's either put one in or taken one out that is regrettably missing. For example I wouldn't much fancy changing a Head Gasket but there are some great write ups on here (HJs springs to mind) which makes me believe I could if necessary

Yes - I have done it.

It isn't exactly a common undertaking and is well enough covered by the manuals. So not much point in writing writing up, unlike HG change which is far more involved and applicable to many.

I didn't remove the dashboard but it wasn't exactly easy easy.
