Which bit nearly fell off?

The whole mirror assembly, the glass (with backing) or just the glass?

Incidentally when i post anything I tick the box that says "notify me when a reply is posted" I never get a notification when someone is kind enough to do so :(

Yes, the forum emails are broken at the moment, so you won't get any notifications.

The mirror glass (backing) is retained in the shell via three parts - two plastic screw adjusters with keyed ball joints at one end and one cross shaped metal piece (two crossed axles) that the mirror pivots on.

I think they commonly break when someone replaces the glass, mine are broken. I think I will make some new ones on the lathe eventually, but have in the mean time used a lump of blu-tac behind the backing against the motor mechanism as a temporary substitute.

The Lotus After Sales list had spare mirrors going cheaply a while back - you could buy those and simply salvage the pivor and adjustment components.

There was also some discussion on here about those parts being reproduced on high end 3D printers, apparently the CAD is available somewhere but I couldn't find it to try. Suppose I could re-do it, but hoped someone might still have it.

I assume that all mirror glasses were heated, so the glass would be retained if it fell out by the heater wires, although it would quickly make a mess of the paint around the mirror casing / door.

Ian:

Scott (Superbad) did the pin 3D art a few years ago.

I had some made but the plastic is too hard/stiff to reuse the internal brass spring to extend the "teeth". Some had them printed in metal but the "teeth" are designed to collapse when installing or removing the mirror and "all metal" could damage the drive gears. I planned on packing the hole with small foam rubber bits that forced the "teeth" out enough to grab in the gear but still not damage the drive gears. I also considered RTV silicone as a springy material.

As best as I have heard, the NA mirrors were NOT heated, the TURBO mirrors were.

The A100U0497F Right Side / RHD mirror body is still available for £103.18 I don't know if it has a mirror included or not.

The C100U0316F Right Side / LHD with convex mirror is still available for £26.38 but there weren't many left when I asked for a quantity check.

Those are the only "Mirror" listings in the current price book with a "100" (M100) part number.
